Thursday that Director David Petraeus did not consider resigning as Afghanistan war
commander over President Obama's decision to quickly draw down surge forces, despite
a new book's claim that he was urged to do so.The claim
was made in a new book on Petraeus' 37-year Army career. Reporting
on the contents after obtaining an advance copy, The Associated Press said
conservative writer Max Boot had urged he take that course of action,
but Petraeus decided that resigning would be a "selfish, grandstanding move with
huge political ramifications" and that now was "time to salute and carry
on."CIA spokeswoman Jennifer Youngblood said resignation was not an option. "Director Petraeus
has publicly stated that he never contemplated resignation," Y
