Ambulatory Surgery Centers are medical facilities where surgery that does not require hospital admission are performed. The specific type and range of surgery performed by a particular facility varies. Some of the most common procedures are cataracts, colonoscopies, and arthroscopic surgery.
White people began settling southwestern Butler County in about 1866. In 1881, George Miller built a gristmill on the Big Blue River. He was surprised to discover that so much waterpower was available so close to the river's headwaters, and this led him to name the mill "Surprise". Businesses and homes were established near the mill; and in 1883, a post office was established under the name "Surprise". The town plat was registered in 1884. In 1887, the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad established a depot in Surprise, resulting in further expansion of local businesses.
Kari Seitz (born November 2, 1970) is an American professional soccer referee, considered one of the most experienced female referees in the world. She participated in four FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments in (1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011), as well as three Olympic soccer tournaments (2004, 2008, and 2012) and is the only referee — man or woman — to do so.
At the 2000 census[4], there were 44 people, 18 households and 12 families residing in the village. The population density was 110.1 per square mile (42.5/km²). There were 22 housing units at an average density of 55.0 per square mile (21.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.
Fort D is the surviving fortification built by Union troops here during the Civil War. Fort A sat just north of downtown Cape Girardeau on a high hill. A grist-grinding windmill was included in the fort. Fort B was located where Academic Hall now stands at Southeast Missouri State University. Fort C was built at the end of Bloomfield Road east of Pacific St. Smaller earthworks included Battery A at the corner of Henderson and New Madrid Streets, Battery B on Whitener Street just east of Sunset Avenue and rifle pits along Perry Avenue and on the hill where Southeast Missouri Hospital now stands.
