[ASCII] survival? survival!

hallo ascii freunden,
vielen dank fuer das workshop. als mein deutsh ist sehr schlecht,
ich dachte es waere besser when ich in englisch schreibe..
..First of all i wanted to ask you if you know some perl
sources for converting sound to ascii. The project i would
like to start to work on consists of making musical scores
for 'sound objects'. As far as i can imagine the scores
should be compilled in realtime and saved in some temp files.
Any tips?
The second question  is about installation of realserver
on to linux machine with 2.4 kernel. Did someone try to
install the existing version for 2.2 machines? Somehow the
bin source doesn't want to install (first of all i thought that
it has to deal with firewalls and ports but error logs every
time during the installation record unexpected values)
