Hallo,

nachfolgend eine message, die ich bei exim-users gepostet habe, und auf
die ich leider bisher keine Nachricht bekam. Ich habe am letzten Freitag
mit der Hilfe von Florian Cramer meinen laptop von SuSE auf Debian
umgestellt. Seitdem funktioniert mein mail System nicht mehr. Florian und
ein anderer Debian SysAdmin konnte mir leider nicht weiterhelfen und
Florian gab mir den Tip, es auf dieser mailing Liste zu versuchen. Ausser
dem unten in Englisch geschilderten Problem, habe ich mittlerweile noch
ein zweites Problem, (das m=F6glicherweise irgendwie zusammenh=E4ngt?): In
mutt wird mein From: Feld nicht mehr ausgef=FCllt, obwohl ich in meinem
=2Emuttrc die Zeile 'set from=3D"finnendahl@folkwang-hochschule.de"' stehen
habe. Auch ein setzen der $EMAIL environment variable, ein L=F6schen meiner
=2Emuttrc und gleichzeitige Neuinstallation von mutt schaffte in allen mir
erdenklichen Kombinationen keine Besserung, so dass ich den from Eintrag
mit <esc>-f dann von Hand eintragen musste. Vielleicht weiss irgendjemand
Abhilfe? Ich finde alles jedenfalls h=F6chst r=E4tselhaft, da ich bisher se=

Jahren problemlos mit mutt gearbeitet habe. Jede Form der Hilfe ist h=F6chs=

willkommen. Ich versuche unten eine m=F6glichst vollst=E4ndige Beschreibung

Hello,

I'm desperately trying to configure exim for a couple of days and get
strange errors. I' using mutt and exim on a debian system on a laptop.

I'm trying to do the following:

My local domain is called 'finnendahl.de' (I made that one up, it's not
really existing)

My email Address which appears in the from: part is
'finnendahl@folkwang-hochschule.de' (that domain part really exists, but
on a remote machine, I'm not logged into)

My ISP is t-online with a relay server 'smtprelay@t-online.de' (which
expands to 'fmrlallmx.t-online.com').

I'm logged in with a dsl connection. BTW: This setup already worked fine
with sendmail and SuSE.

If I try to send mail with exim, I get the following strange errors in
/var/log/exim/mainlog:

My from address in mutt was set to 'finnendahl@folkwang-hochschule.de'
I tried to send to 'orm@gigant.kgw.tu-berlin.de' (another email account
which is valid)

Following are other settings on my laptop which might be interesting:

/etc/mailname contains 'finnendahl.de'
/etc/email-adresses contains 'orm: finnendahl@folkwang-hochschule.de'

My local user name is 'orm'

'hostname -a' gives: 'grisey'

I should state that no error messages ever arrive at my email account at
'finnendahl@folkwang-hochschule.de'

I also don't have the slightest idea, how the recipients
--@finnendahl.de, delay@finnendahl.de and failure@finnendahl.de are
generated (and by whom). All I can say is that they obviously already
appear in the header files of my outgoing mail stored by exim.

I'm completely at loss here. Any help is greatly appreciated!
As I'm not subscribed, please cc replys to my email address.
