kim cascone [ USA ] - dust theories
------------------------------------------------
A small particulate matter that is shed when
no longer needed...Cantor's dust: a set whose
length measure is zero yet is
infinite...Duchamp's dust as photographed by
Man Ray...extraneous code that is covertly
used to build virtual worlds in "Permutation
City" by Greg Egan...dust: an addictive drug
with telepathic effects from a popular
science-fiction television
show...debris...residue...sonic dust...sonic
residue...the sounds we mentally toss aside
when filtering them out of our
environment...the sounds that result from
iterative processing...dust is infinitely nothing.

debris.....residue.....sonic dust....sonic residue
lŽusine [ USA ] _ [ isophlux records ]
------------------------------------------------
"L'usine is Jeff Mcilwain one of America's new
leading electronic artists. L'usine pushes into
the future of sound and music with the tools
of the past, not like most producers today
that have went in the ways of DSP beeps and
blips. L'usine rises above with structured
songs and melodic emotions that have been
lost by the mass of electronic music being
generated today. L'usine produces music to
act like a sound track for drives, fights, love,
and laying back."

The way to produce sounds &
pictures -animated or not- with
computers is the same. This is the
begining of the Byte Burger creation
in 1997 by Vida Collado and Dave
Beck in Strasbourg, France. Byte
Burger is an independent label who
mix home made music created with
computer and multimedia in his
most various and ludic forms.
Presented as CDRs, the
compositions of different musicians
are almost allways produced with
ROM part, extended musical univers
of the record. Influences are very
diverses:
- for the pictures: mangas, video
games, horror b movies,
xperimental cinema, speechless
movies.
- for the music: old school electro,
austrogermanbritishfinlandojapanese
electronica, musique concrète,
movies soundtracks, jungle, hip hop,
punk, dub
All of this is made in a ludic way, like
a sort of drive-in cinema, giant video
game, toys who produce music,
pictures, laughs, emotions, dance
