International Festival for Film Video and New Media

=46rom Wednesday, October 24th through Sunday, October 28th, The 21st annual
VIPER -- International Festival for Film, Video and New Media -- will once
again present a multifaceted and dynamic platform for art and discourse with
something for nearly everyone! The Festival Center is the Theater Basel with
other venues nearby.

This year the VIPER Forum will feature the theme: Next Odyssee: Along with
an interdisciplinary Symposium on Friday evening, October 26th, and all day
Saturday, October 27th in the Stadtcasino, which features 14-renowned
international artists, cultural theoreticians and scientists, there will be
a special program of further CD-ROM and Internet works by international
media artists presented in the Medialounge, a film and video retrospective
including a screening of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The Symposium includes presentations about  interactive art and
architecture; the latest in space observation images; the influence of
traveling to distance lands in the virtual space of the Internet; navigation
and information architecture, information landscape; literature in Internet;
research about merging virtual and real space; and, migration in today's
tumultuous era of mass mobility.

In einem =F6ffentlichen, interdisziplin=E4r angelegten Symposium, am Fr. 26.=
 und
Sa 27.10. im Stadtcasino zum Thema "Next Odyssee" will VIPER 21 die
Grundlage f=FCr die Diskussion solcher Fragen schaffen: Wie wirkt sich die
Verschmelzung von realen und virtuellen Wirklichkeiten auf unsere
Wahrnehmung von Raum aus, welchen Effekt hat sie auf unser t=E4gliches Leben=
=2E
Wie werden diese Ver=E4nderungen in der Kunst, in der Theorie und Wissenscha=
ft
reflektiert?

Im Rahmen von vier Blockveranstaltungen geben international renommierte
Experten Einblick in eine Reihe von Themenkreisen. Jeder Block wird von
einem Moderator geleitet, der das Publikum mit den jeweiligen
=46ragestellungen vertraut macht und das Gespr=E4ch zwischen der Zuh=F6rersc=
haft
und den Experten vermittelt. Im dritten Block werden ausserdem f=FCnf Expert=
en
im Rahmen einer speziellen Podiumsdiskussion =FCber Fragen der
Informationsarchitektur und der Informationslandschaft debattieren.
