In der Ausstellung URBAN DECLINE / 02 F 40 wird das Werk des Berliner =
Malers Alekos Hofstetter, dem neuen Buchprojekt "Fragen zur Architektur" =
von Giacinto Pettorino und Jan Schmidt gegen=FCbergestellt.
Die neue Serie URBAN DECLINE von Alekos Hofstetter setzt sich mit den =
immer rascher veraltenden Architekturen und dem Verfall von Urbanit=E4t =
im Zeitalter der Globalisierung auseinander. Es zeigen sich Szenarien =
von einst=FCrzenden, explodierenden oder verfallenden Architekturen - =
den Machtzentren des
Kapitals, des Wissens oder des Staates. Die Bilder zeigen eine =
Zertr=FCmmerung, zu Gunsten einer einzigen vereinheitlichenden, =
synthetischen und universalen Realit=E4t. So gelingt es dem K=FCnstler, =
die
Ma=DFlosigkeit einer Gesellschaft im Taumel der st=E4ndigen Neuerung =
unter Aneignung ihrer eigenen ''Realit=E4t-produzierenden" Mittel zu =
kritisieren.
Im Rahmen ihres Buchprojektes haben die beiden Architekten Giacinto =
Pettorino und Jan Schmidt w=E4hrend ihres Studiums 40 international =
bekannte Architekten 28 Fragen gestellt. Tadao Ando, Stephan Braunfels, =
Peter Eisenmann, Meinhard von Gerkan, Nicolas Grimshaw, Philip Johnson, =
Jan und Josef Paul Kleihues, Daniel Liebeskind, Richard Meier, Axel =
Schultes, Oswald Mathias Ungers und Klaus Zillich sind nur einige Namen =
und Stimmen, die hier zu Wort kommen. Die =C4u=DFerungen der Architekten =
erlauben einen Einblick in ihre Arbeitsweisen und ihre pers=F6nlichen =
Einstellungen zu Architektur und Stadtplanung.
Mit der Ausstellung soll eine Kontextualisierung der urbanen Visionen =
Hofstetters und der =E4sthetischen und stadtplanerischen Anspr=FCche der =
Architekten unternommen werden.
Zur Ausstellung erscheint das von Giacinto Pettorino und Jan Schmidt =
herausgegebene Buch "02 F 40, Fragen zur Architektur Ando bis Zillich" =
im Wasmuth Verlag.

Alekos Hofstetter's new works set about deconstructing the ever quicker =
process of the outdating of modern architecture, the uniformity of the =
built environement and the decay of urban systems in the era of =
globalization. The pictures in the new series portray scenarios of =
collapsing, exploding or delapidated architecture - symbols of the =
power of capital, knowledge and states. Through their destructiveness
the paintings create a uniformed, synthetic and universal reality. It is =
in this way that he attempts to critisise the extremity of a society in =
a frenzy of constant renewal and obsessive consumption through the use =
of society's own ,reality producing' means.
Two former students have asked 40 international known architects 28 =
questions. Ando, Eisenman, Gerkan, Grimshaw, Johnson, Kleihues, =
Liebeskind and Ungers are just a couple of names who had one's say. The =
statements of the architects, give an insight in their working methods =
and personal attitude towards architecture and urban development. The =
exhibition presents extracts of the book as a projection installation. =
Where is the city of Berlin heading to in the future or how do you =
define the architects job today and in the future? An imaginary =
discussion gives answers to these questions.
"02F40, questions about architecture from Ando to Zillich" will be =
published in summer 2002.
The exibition intents to contextualise Hofstetter's visions and the =
aestetic and urban demands of the architects interviewed in the "02F40".
