John Butcher lebt in London und ist nach 25 Musiker-Jahren zu den =
f=FChrenden Kr=E4ften=20
des Saxophonspiels zu z=E4hlen. Seine Musik reicht von freier =
Improvisation bis zu neuen=20
Musikstrukturen oder gelegentlichen Auftritten mit "the ex". Zu seinen =
Partnern z=E4hlen=20
Derek Bailey, Phil Durrant, Axel D=F6rner oder Gino Robair.
Christof Kurzmann, =D6sterreicher, 2002 artist-in-residence, hat sich in =
den letzten Jahren=20
durch sein Label "charhizma" und durch seine Besch=E4ftigung als =
Elektronik-Improvisator einen=20
Namen geschaffen. Seine Arbeit brachte ihn zuletzt mit Musikern wie =
Kaffe Matthews,=20
Marina Rosenfeld oder Jerome Noetinger zusammen. Butcher und Kurzmann =

On the 6th of September John Cage would have become 90 years old - a =
reason
to celebrate the master and his oeuvre with a musical birthday party.
His works range from early entertaining works in the 40ies and 50ies =
beyond
media-creations for radio, record players or tape recorders to harmonic
number pieces. zeitkratzer is known for the same rather non-academic
attitude. The ensemble celebrates the hedonistic charlatan as well as =
the
mushroom collecting, Zen inspired ascetic or the outstanding musician =
and
sculptor of coincidence. Early chamber music works will be performed =
just as=20
sumptuous creations like "Birds & Telephones" (sponsored by Dolly =
Buster).=20
Being aware of his name's ambiguity John Cage titled on of his works:=20

The London musician John Butcher belongs to the world leading saxophone
players. His music ranges from free improvisation to new musical =
structures
and performances with "the ex". He played with Derek Bailey, Phil =
Durrant,
Axel D=F6rner, Gino Robair.
The Austrian Christof Kurzmann is artist-in-residence at the Podewil, =
Berlin
this year. In the past years he has become well known for his music =
label
"charhizma" and his work as an electronic improvisor. He performed with
musicians like Kaffe Matthews, Marina Rosenfeld or Jerome Noetinger.
Butcher and Kurzmann met at performances of "polwechsel"
(Butcher/Dafeldecker/Stangl/Moser) and in Burkhard Stangl's "Venusmond =
3"
(Chicago 1999). Since then they have continuously been working together =
as a
duo.
In 1994 the finnish musician Mika Vaino formed "Pan sonic" together with =

Ilpo Vaisanen in Turku, Finland. Vaino, on this evening on the =
turntables,=20
offers the listener a wide range of flowing, atmospheric sounds and =
rhythms.
"For me the most important thing in our music is the sound itself," says =
Vaino.=20
"The structure is secondary. For different kinds of tracks, of course,=20
were looking for different kinds of sounds. But I still don't know =
myself what=20
is in a sound that attracts me. There's some kind of nature in the sound =
itself,=20
