bus tour with soundart performances at four venues

Modern crises of reality are countered time after time by utopian  
visions of
imaginary places that offer alternatives to apparently inevitable
circumstances. Such Utopia have to some extent taken root already as
parallel contemporary worlds, or as concrete initiatives with a  
decidedly
pragmatic orientation. In an evening-long bus tour, we will be taking a  
look
at four such places, for which artists have conceived particular sound
performances. They investigate and consider places, people, action,  
desire
and reality. The tour begins at Haus der Kulturen der Welt and leads to  
the
Kreuzberg network of Till Eulenspiegel kindergarten, which accommodates
children from socially disadvantaged families. The route continues  
through
dark industrial vaulted cellars, to heighten the senses; then to the
post-modern Jesuit Community church of St. Canisius by the Lietzensee  
lake
in Charlottenburg; and, finally, in Tiergarten park, to the Research
Institute for Water and Naval Engineering, also known as ³the pink  
pipe².

2. E-XPLO - MY LODGING AND SOME OTHERS

Bus tour with the artist group e-Xplo (INT)

The savage political failures of our time, of any time (humanitarian
failures after all, are also political ones), must have something to do  
with
a rekindled interest in imagining other trajectories, possibilities, or
spaces of hope. Nevertheless, the very process of arriving at Utopia, of
imagining, runs into problems that city and urban planners face, which  
is
that the imagined city, even when realized is always different from the  
one
inhabited and lived in. Drawing from and working with a variety of  
sources
including texts, maps, films, interviews, field research and audio
recordings, e-Xplo (Heimo Lattner, Erin McGonigle, Rene Gabri) develops
projects which address specific issues related to chosen sites of
inquiry.

For Berlin, e-Xplo takes a number of passengers on a carefully
mapped journey through nocturnal Berlin in a tour-bus equipped with  
audio
system and GPS reciever. The system installed registers various
environmental parameters and the vehicle's status and in accordance  
with the
data, plays audio sequences, which overlap a performance of live
electro-acoustic sound to transform an ordinary bus tour into a  
navigable
cinema.

Bustour zu vier Orten mit performativen Klanginstalltionen

Den modernen Krisen der Wirklichkeit werden immer wieder Utopien  
entgegen
gestellt, imaginaere Orte, die Alternativen zum anscheinend  
Unausweichlichen
bieten. Diese Utopien sind bisweilen in Parallelwelten der Gegenwart  
oder in
konkreten, recht pragmatisch orientierten Initiativen eingebunden. In  
einer
mehrstuendigen Bustour werden vier solcher Orte erkundet, für die
KuenstlerInnen spezielle performative Klanginstallationen entwerfen. Sie
überpruefen und hinterfragen Orte und Menschen, Handlung, Wunsch und
Wirklichkeit. Die Reise beginnt am Haus der Kulturen der Welt und fuehrt
nach Kreuzberg in den Kindergarten der Till Eulenspiegel Kette, wo  
Kinder
aus sozial schwachen und benachteiligten Familien untergebracht sind.  
Der
Weg fuehrt durch dunkle, industrielle Kellergewölbe in denen die Sinne
sensibilisiert werden über die postmoderne Kirche der Jesuitengemeinde  
St.
Canisius am Charlottenburger Lietzensee, in die Versuchsanstalt für  
Wasser-
und Schiffbau, auch bekannt als die 'Rosa Roehre' im Berliner  
Tiergarten.

Bustour der Kuenstlergruppe e-Xplo (INT)

Das wieder entfachte Interesse, sich verstaerkt mit Fluchtlinien,
zukunftweisenden Moeglichkeiten und hoffnungsvollen Raeumen zu
beschaeftigen, muß etwas mit dem grausamen politischen Versagen der  
Menschen
 nicht nur in unserer Epoche - zu tun haben. Ein Ankommen in Utopia,  
dem
Nicht-Ort, fuehrt allerdings zu jenen Problemen, denen sich auch  
Stadtplaner
ausgesetzt sehen, wenn geplante Staedte zur Wirklichkeit werden und sie  
von
Menschen anders als im Sinne des Entwurfs bewohnt und erlebt werden.  
e-Xplo
(Heimo Lattner, Erin McGonigle, René Gabri) haben für den club  
transmediale
ein Projekt entwickelt, das Berlin-spezifische Themen untersucht und so
utopische Ansaetze thematisiert. Literatur, Landkarten, Filme,  
Interviews,
Ergebnisse von Feld-Forschungen, Spekulationen und Klangaufnahmen  
dienen als
Ausgangs- und Arbeitsmaterial auf für eine Forschungsreise zu  
ausgesuchten
Orten im Stadtraum.

Ein mit Audio-System und GPS-Empfaenger ausgestatteter Bus faehrt eine
Anzahl von Reisenden auf einer ausgearbeiteten Route durch das  
naechtliche
Berlin. Das mitgefuehrte System registriert verschiedene Parameter von
Umgebung und Fahrzeug und spielt abhaengig davon Audiosequenzen ab, die  
sich
mit live im Bus produzierten elektroakustischen Klangstrukturen zu einer
sorgfaeltig geplanten Tour verbinden. Eine herkoemmliche Busfahrt wird  
so zu
einem lenkbaren Film in Bewegung.
