FUTURE TV Workshop
Workshop Leader: Raimo Lang, YLE, Helsinki

Venue: Film Academy, Munich, Germany

In this creative workshop participants will develop fiction concepts for ITV
in teams. The workshop will in the first place focus on the exploration of
the potential for interactive, participatory TV programme enabled by
combining traditional broadcast with mobile and/or internet applications.

The workshop  will be held in English and will take place at the Film
Academy Munich, Germany

__The training is aiming in the first place at professionals
(developers, writers, producers, designers, programmers, artists,
researchers...)
 coming from MEDIA member countries. Applicants coming from other countries
please 
contact the sagas office for details.

__There is a limited budget available for travel and/or hotel funding.
In case you need to apply for this please make sure to contact the sagas
office 
before SEPTEMBER 20.

__sagas writing interactive fiction is a non-profit training initiative in
the frame of the
 MEDIA Plus Programme of the EU and is aiming at furthering
innovative story-based content creation for interactive media.

Combining broadcast channels: content for TV, iTV, broadband and mobile
This presentation examines the way in which content creators can utilize
and exploit multiple channels in so called superdistribution of content.
Looking at existing ways in which broadcasters use all the channels, mobile
TV,
iDTV, broadband etc we will examine how independents can exploit the
opportunities presented by this explosion of technology.
We will also look at how the delivery affects the form of the content and
the golden opportunity for interactivity as well as strategies for fully
exploiting
the strengths of the different technologies using one piece of content.

CV Raimo Lång 
Raimo Lång is a writer, developer and dramaturge/producer and
lives in Helsinki. Currently he works as creative director for internal
program development unit at Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) and prior to
that held a professorship on interactive media and communication at Media
Lab, a new media department at University of Arts and Design Helsinki. Raimo
Lång has done research, professional concept development and training on
interactive media, particularly about interactive television and social
narration since 1995. His projects include fact and fiction for interactive
television and cross-media platforms and design contribution ranges from
character generation and interaction design to communication strategies and
patented narrative database systems for YLE. A new project involves
integration of public journalism to television through new technologies &
designs. Raimo Lång has also written and directed thirteen fiction and
documentary films for audiences in Finland and abroad. Human non-verbal
communication and exploration of narrative structures are emphasized in his
documentaries and dramas. Current projects for YLE, first one being a
thematically directed and moderated www-game on moral and latter a
television studio show with remotely controlled technologies involved.

CV Richard Adams
Richard has worked in interactive TV for over a decade,
from analogue to digital, producing many programmes/applications and
services. He has worked for both Yoomedia (as Creative Director and Director
of Interactive Dating) and TwowayTV (as a content creator), two of the
leading companies in the UK and along the way has worked in interactive
advertising for a range of blue chip and other clients. He is currently
developing both a podcasting business and an IPTV business. He is also
consulting for a range of clients.
Richard is also an academic being Visting Professor of Digital Media at
Salford University and having founded the Digital Arts department at the
London College of Music and Media, Thames Valley University where he created
a suite of under and postgraduate digital arts and media courses. He is also
Area Examiner for Communications at Portsmouth University.
Richard has been invited to speak and chair many conferences around the
world as far afield as Australia and the USA. He has taken part in
governmental trade missions looking at broadband and iTV. He is also a
published author on interactivity, also contributing to a number of upcoming
books and readers. His most recent contribution being a chapter for the
sagas_sagasnet_reader on the effect on interactive narrative of smart,
invisible and embedded media. He is a BAFTA Interactive judge and has been a
judge on a number of awards panels
