Projektpräsentation der Stipendiaten 2007

Die drei Inhaber des Edith-Ruß-Haus-Stipendiums 2007 - Ellen Fellmann
(Berlin), Jens Brand (Köln) und Eddo Stern (USA und Israel) stellen in
Oldenburg den aktuellen Stand ihrer Arbeitsvorhaben vor.

ELLEN FELLMANN plant ein audio-visuelles Streichquartett für Streicher
und Bildstimme, in welchem sie die Form des klassischen Streichquartetts
in gestisch-choreographischer Weise neu bestimmt. Das Konzert wird im
Mai stattfinden und eine installative Variante wird im Herbst in einer
Ausstellung zu sehen sein. 
JENS BRAND entwirft mit *The red psi donkey* eine Installation, in
der Klang durch das Bild eines roten Esels sichtbar gemacht wird. Dieses
Bild resultiert aus der Aufzeichnung eines Schallwellenmusters durch
eine akustische Kamera. Der rote Esel ist allerdings nur zu sehen, wenn
das Wellenmuster nicht dadurch gestört wird, dass jemand den Raum der
Installation betritt. Zeigen will Brand damit, dass es unmöglich ist,
die Welt jenseits des visuell Wahrnehmbaren zu erfassen.
EDDO STERN entwickelt die Videospielinstallation *Darkgame*, in der
die Spieler mit einer besonderen Sinneserfahrung konfrontiert werden:
Spezielles Zubehör erlaubt ihnen nur, sich auf entweder den Seh-, Hör-
oder Tastsinn beim Spielen zu verlassen. Das Spiel selbst ist so
gestaltet, dass diese Einschränkungen je nach Spielumgebung einen Nach-
oder Vorteil darstellen.

Presentation of the projects awarded the stipends for 2007

The three artists awarded the Edith Russ Site work stipends for 2007 -
Ellen Fellmann (Germany), Jens Brand (Germany), and Eddo Stern (USA and
Israel) - are presenting the current stage of their projects in
Oldenburg.

ELLEN FELLMANN is working on the realisation of an audio-visual string
quartet for strings and *visual voice* (like a musical voice) in
which she is repositioning the form of a classic string quartet in a
choreographic and gestural way. The concert will take place in May and
will later be staged as an installation. 
JENS BRAND is designing an installation with the title *The red psi
donkey*, in which sound becomes visualized through the image of a red
donkey produced by recording a sound wave pattern with an acoustic
camera. The image is only visible, however, if the wave pattern remains
undisturbed by any visitors entering the installation space. With this
piece Brand demonstrates the impossibility of experiencing the world
beyond our visible field of perception.
EDDO STERN is developing the computer-game-installation *Darkgame*,
in which the players* are confronted with a special sensory
experience: Custom designed gear allows them to play the game relying
only on either their sense of sight, hearing or touch. The various
levels of narrative interactions of the game itself offer advantages to
either one of these states of reduced sensory faculties while proving
disadvantageous to the others.
