*Al Margolis* (Chester, NY) is a living cassette culture monument and
has been operating – alone as well as with guest performers - under the
*If, Bwana* handle since 1984. He has released countless tapes, records
and cd's on labels all over the world as well as on his own Pogus
Productions and Sound of Pig imprints. His music succeeds in fusing
ambience with experimental and musique concrète, producing strange
soundscapes that are soothing and unnerving, (consciously) ridiculous
and cerebral - often all at the same time.

Just for this occasion If, Bwana will be joined by *Dan Warburton*. A
revered music theorist and journalist (for Paris Transatlantic and The
Wire, among other publications), Warburton is also a weathered
improviser, multi-instrumentalist and experimental composer. Dan
Warburton lives and works in Paris, France.

Much like If, Bwana, *Illusion of Safety* is rooted in the heyday of the
experimental hometaping network. And like Al Margolis, *Dan Burke*
(Chicago) has been the constant factor in an ever-changing series of
artistic constellations which have included Jim O'Rourke and Kevin
Drumm, among many others. Unable to categorize IOS' output into one
style, each release, live performance, and sometimes individual piece
often shifts abruptly from one atmosphere to another. IOS' work is
decomposition: using obscure sources, exhibiting a strong sense of
balance in structure and sound color, juxtaposing the beautiful and the
disturbing.

Since 2003, Yiorgis Sakellariou has been using the recording name
Mecha/Orga. So far, he has released 2 CDs and 3 CD-Rs and has performed,
using his laptop, in Greece, The Netherlands, the U.K., France and
Germany. Mecha/Orga is interested in drones and sustained sounds, either
harmonic or noisy, produced by tone generators, acoustic instruments,
feedback or field recordings.
