jonCates produziert, organisiert und unterrichtet Experimentelle Medienkunst am Department für Film, Video und New Media des Art Institute Chicago. Seine Projekte und Arbeiten wurden international vorgestellt, zum Beispiel in Peking, Madrid, New York und Mexico City - und vielfach auch online. Seine künstlerischen Experimente basieren auf den verschiedenen Einflüssen von Art Games, Video, experimentellen Maschinen, DigitalPunk und Noise. In seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit widmet sich Jon der Geschichte der Medienkunst und verwandten Themen.
In 2007 hat er das Phil Morton Memorial Research Archiv initiiert. Er schreibt unter anderem für Furtherfield.org, als auch für eine Vielzahl weiterer On- und Offlinemedien.

Art Claims Impulse ist Galerie, Label und Kulturstätte spezialisiert auf Video-, Performance- und Multi-Media Kunst. Das Hauptinteresse der beiden Galeristen Melanie Zagrean und Pierre Wolter gilt Kunstwerken, die ungewöhnliche Ansätze verfolgen, die thematisch, technisch oder ästhetisch innovativ sind und Diskurse stimulieren.

jonCates makes, organizes and teaches experimental New Media Art. His projects have been presented internationally at various events in locations such as Beijing, Madrid and Mexico City; nationally in Chicago, New York and Boston and are widely distributed online. Art Games, video, experimental Machinima, Computer Witchcraft, digitalPunk and Noise music are some of the unstable categories that his work playfully moves through.

jonCates teaches in the New Media path of study of the Film, Video & New Media Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His research and writings are on Media Art Histories and related subjects. In 2007, he initiated the Phil Morton Memorial Research Archive to archive and freely distribute the Media Art work of Phil Morton and associated research. He writes on these topics for Furtherfield.org as well as in other online and offline publications.
