I agree - since the "playing" of the sample does 
not do anything, I doubt that a CD would...
I guess it is basically the idea of the noise 
supression the comes through phase annihilation 
(if thats the word) which is used by these 
state-of-the-art headphones - that is a matter of 
the precise a-synchronization with the original 
sound (this most probably being not a very 
adequat technical explanation, sorry).
