Following Banff 2005, Berlin 2007, Melbourne 2009, Liverpool 2011, Riga 2013 and Montreal 2015, the Media Art History Boards and Co-Chairs invite you to attend Re:Trace 2017 in Krems/Göttweig/Vienna. More than a decade after the first conference founded the field, which is now recognized internationally as a significant historical inquiry at the intersection of art, science, and technology, Media Art Histories is now firmly established as a dynamic area of interdisciplinary study guided by changing media and research priorities, drawing a growing community of scholars, artists and artist-researchers. Immersed in both contemporary and historiographical aspects of the digital world, we explore the most immediate socio-cultural questions of our time: from body futures, information society, and media (r)evolutions, to environmental interference, financial virtualization, and surveillance. And we do so through a fractal lens of inter- and trans-disciplinarity, bridging art history, media studies, neuroscience, psychology, sociology, and beyond. MediaArtHistories is a field whose theory, methods, and objects of study interweave with and overlay other disciplines. **KEYNOTES:* * o Prof. Ryszard KLUSCZYNSKI (University of Lodz, PL) o Prof. Wendy Hui CHUN (Brown University, US) o Prof. Em. We Are One World - http://wow.engad.org is a global networking project in an exchange between virtual and physical space (online/offline) including artists, curators and cultural institutions from all parts on the globe. The project directed and curated by Agricola de Cologne, director of artvideoKOELN, is dealing with the most essential question of human existence, eg. the survival of the human species on planet EARTH - to be released in different presentation formats ? a festival (video) - W:OW Art Film & Video Festival - travelling around the globe and the virtual and a physical exhibition open for a wide range of artistic media - moving, interactive and static images ? non-visual: soundart (video, netart, multimedia, VR, games, photography, digital image, soundart etc). There is not doubt, that the current human civilization is about to destroy itself through itself. Many ancient civilizations were erased because they were extensively exploiting and misusing the natural resources destroying their nutrition fundament and own living habitat, the same way as we do on a much more radically global scale increasingly since decades. Do we learn from history? Just some keywords: climate change, global warming, fresh water, military conflicts on water resources, migration, transmigration, refugees, respect, tolerance, new technologies, communicating media, populist and ant-democratic movements, exploition of natural resources, globally acting companies, habitable zones, future generations, global responsibility and many more. The sciences have proved: we all - whereever we are living on Earth - have the same one ancestor in Africa. It is not too late that we, eg. the whole mankind - sitting in the same boat have to take responsibility for each other which is requiring the greatest common efforts to prevent the collapse of the biological, ecological, social and cultural systems on Earth, and save our planet as habitable not only for the living, but also the future generations. ?The W:OW Project? is inviting artists from all over the world working in different media to reflect Present and Future of our planet as the place where life as such, the amazing diversity of a magnificent nature and the human species had the chance to arise, where this human species made such incredible achievements during the civilisatory development until these days based on humanity, empathy and creativity, expressed, for instance, in art, the sciences and a free and open democratic society ? We Are One World. Participating is free of charge. Veranstalter Humanistische Union Message-ID: Diskussion: Was bleibt nach dem Untersuchungsausschuss des Bundestages vom NSA-Skandal? Mittwoch, 6. Glotaic) kennen und erfuhren, was in Bad Aibling geschieht. MCs often base their identity on the ?hood? they hail from or have chosen as a home, and their lyrics become rhyming reportage about life on the streets of their town. This is echoed in the music clips accompanying these tracks. Location shooting in actual urban settings is not only cheaper and faster, it contributes to the desired image of ?realness? and community connection. This program is a journey into sound and vision with clips made between 1982 and 2017 and shot in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Kiev, Budapest, Belgrade, Istanbul, Accra, Liberec, London and other cities. Rapper begründen ihre Identitäten oft auf ihre ?Hood?, ob Ursprungsort oder Wahlheimat. So werden die Texte zu reimenden Reportagen über das Leben auf der Strasse ihrer Städte. Not a Single Bone Opening: 8 September 2017, 6pm 9 September ? 11 November 2017 - New space - NOME Glogauer Str. 17, 10999 Berlin http://nomegallery.com NOME is pleased to present Nora Al-Badri?s and Nikolai Nelles? first solo show, "Not a Single Bone". The artists will show their most recent project "Fossil Futures" which results from research (funded by Haus der Kulturen der Welt), at the Tendaguru Beds in Tanzania, a former German colony that was the site of systematic excavations of dinosaur bones during the colonial era. Art historian W.J.T. Mitchell writes that the dinosaur is ?the totem animal of modern culture? ? whether analyzed by empirical scientific methods in the West, popularized by Hollywood, or the object of native ritual practices. For Nora Al-Badri and Nikolai Nelles, the dinosaur activates a public dialogue on mass extinction and extraction, also in terms of a "cultural fracking" related to a hierarchy of knowledge and the role of Western science. By manipulating and reproducing these fossils with the help of artificial intelligence and leaked data as well as with the classic tools of natural history museums, the artists question the fictions of authenticity told by Western institutions, and seek to uncover alternative emancipatory narratives. The duo also present an iteration of their acclaimed project "The Other Nefertiti" (2015), based on an ?open-sourcing? of the Ancient Egyptian Nefertiti Bust through a data leak, in order to make it publicly available and display it in Cairo ? an intervention into the production and commodification of global heritage and cultural goods. The replica and its various representations, along with "The Other Nefertiti?s" remixes, which have emerged across the world, address the exploitation of colonialism and unequal global power relations, and critique the continued display of such ?treasures? in Europe. Nora Al-Badri and Nikolai Nelles are multi-disciplinary artists based in Berlin. They have participated in the 3rd Design Biennial (Istanbul, Turkey), the Something Else, Off Biennale (Cairo, Egypt), and in the exhibition ?A World of Fragile Parts? curated by the Victoria and Albert Museum at the Venice Biennale. Moreover they have exhibited at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica (Madrid, Spain) and the Museum Fünf Kontinente (Munich, Germany). The duo have also staged public interventions at Biennale 4 (Thessaloniki, Greece), 2013, in Cairo and at Occupy Frankfurt. Their work has been featured in international media including the New York Times, BBC, the Times, Le Monde Afrique, Al-Ahram, Hürriyet, Wired, Der Spiegel, and Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
