[spectre] The terror is only just beginning

It is difficult to find words to describe the tragedy of the attack itself.

Drawing my attention are the creeping reports and unattributable
'briefings' by 'officials', 'experts' and 'sources' to the media. The
targets for retribution are being identified. Islamic militants are the
most obvious, but 'advocates of internet privacy' seem to be next on the
list. Who will they come for next?

Also the denials: bin Laden denies responsibility for the attack on the
WTC; US government denies responsibility for explosions and missiles in
Kabul. An unofficial, remote control armed conflict seems to be going on.

Here in the UK, politicians are making statements which seem to offer
almost unconditional support to the US government in whatever action it
feels is 'appropriate'.

I fear we we will enter very dark times for privacy and civil liberties in
the near future.
