Jerusalem east, occupied territories, 5 august 2002

Salam aleicom,

i write you from an hostel in Jerusalem, after 7 hours of waiting and
answering an insistent interrogation on the frontier of Allenby Bridge
(Hussein King Bridge for the arabs), finally succesful in this
border-hack in the attempt to get into the palestinian territories
occupied by the israeli forces.

I was'nt sure to reach in this quest until i saw the Damascus Gates,
crowded by one of the most intense and smellful markets that i ever saw
in my life, between the narrow streets of Jerusalem east.

This first letter is to inform you about FARAH, a project that starts
here, constantly becoming and multiple in the quantity of sensations,
informations, images and sounds that i will try to gather in the next
weeks.

The intentions are not journalistical and there's is almost nothing
scientifical into the analysis and choice of the aural materials that
i'm going to gather: it is about a language and a viewpoint in
evolution, defined in its interaction with a population that is ospital
as much is oppressed, by them i'm getting hosted and for them i hope to
be useful as much as possible.



What i'm writing to, where we are now, is a mailinglist published as
part of FARAH; you are all welcome to actively partecipate to it or
simpy read it.

asking, which is true for some of you.

As a last thing, i'd rather ask for help to translate some of my
letters to english (and eventually more languages), the one that i will

vi scrivo da un'ostello a Gerusalemme, dopo 7 ore di attese e pressanti
interrogatori alla frontiera di Allenby Bridge (Hussein King Bridge per
gli arabi), finalmente riuscito in questo border-hack nel tentativo di
entrare nei territori palestinesi occupati dalle forze israeliane.

Non ero sicuro di riuscirci finche' non ho visto la porta di Damasco,
affollata da uno dei piu' intensi ed odorosi mercati che abbia mai visto
nella mia vita, fra le strette vie di gerusalemme est.

Questa prima lettera e' per informarvi di FARAH, un progetto che
comincia qui, in divenire e molteplice nella quantita' di sensazioni,
informazioni, immagini e suoni che provero' a raccogliere nelle prossime
settimane.
