Programs of New Video Work from Around the World
Saturday, January 11, 2003, 12 noon to 12 midnight
$5 suggested donation
On Saturday, January 11, 2003 from noon until midnight, Art in
General will hold its 5th Annual Video Marathon. This 12-hour
screening features a variety of programs including: From History to
Memory: -Some Views from the Video Zone curated by Sergio Edelstzein,
Tel Aviv; Re-envisioning Dissent, a program of video works
envisioning politics in visual culture; Selections from Transmediale
Int=92l Media Art Festival, Berlin; MONOCANAL: Selections of New
Spanish Video Art, 1996-2001 from Reina Sofia, Madrid;
Dinner/performance: a roving formal garden of food presented in a
performance by Paco Rodriguez; two programs of emerging video
artists' work curated from general submissions; and live video/audio
mixing from square.square with dj Sara Walker.
Art in General is located at 79 Walker Street between Broadway and
Lafayette. Take the 1/9, 6, A, C, E, J, M, N, Q, R, W, or Z to Canal
Street and walk one block south. There is a suggested donation of $5

international video work from the 1st International Video Art
Biennial in Israel this November. Boaz Arad (Israel), Agnese Bule
(Latvia), Olga Chernysheva (Russia), Irit Garty & Isaac Layish
(UK-Israel), Rongotai Lomas & Philip Peacocke (New Zealand), Renata
Poljak (France- Croatia), Jozef Robakowski (Poland), Maxim Tyminko
(Byelorussia/Germany), Piotr Wyrzykowski with Iliya Chichkan
(Poland/Ukraine), and Huang Yan (China). Curated by Sergio
Edelstzein, Director of the Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv.

Re-envisioning Dissent, selected from Art in General=92s submissions,
brings together images and ideologies of political dissent. From
co-optation of media images to metaphoric responses, these artists
find new means of envisioning politics in visual culture. Includes
work from Damian
Catera (NJ), Paul Chan (NY), Norman Cowie (NY), Mary Patten (IL),
S=E9bastien Pesot (Canada), and Jayce Salloum (Canada/Lebanon).

Selections from Transmediale International Media Art Festival, Berlin
is a compilation of fifteen of the best international videos from
Transmediale =9102. The program includes work from Shawn
Chapelle/Heather Hulse (US/Canada), Jorge Cosmen (Spain), Maia
Gusberti.notdef (Austria), Robert Hardy/John Rowley (UK), Harald
Holba (Austria), Matt Hulse (UK), Gudrum Kemsa (Germany), David
Leister/Guy Moss (UK), Les LeVeque (US), Anita Sarosi (Hungary),
Laurent Vicente/Thomas Bernardet (France), and Fan Yuk Man (Hong Kong).

MONOCANAL: Selections of New Spanish Video Art, 1996-2001 from Reina
Sofia, Madrid provides a glimpse of contemporary video art in Spain
including the varied contemporary genres of the medium. Curated by
Berta Sichel (director of Audiovisuals, Reina Sofia), Juan Antonio
Alvarez Reyes (art critic and curator) and Neus Mir=F3 (art critic and
independent curator from Barcelona). The program includes tapes by
Pilar Albarrac=EDn, Lluis Escart=EDn, Alonso Gil, Valeriano L=F3pez: ,
Jordi Maragues, El Perro, Tere Recarens, Juan Carlos Robles and
Manuel Saiz.

Dinner Break: Parterre Extraordinaire, a performance by Paco
Rodriguez presents roving sculptures reminiscent of a formal French
garden, but with food.
