Upd: [spectre] Indymedia Italy under attack

note:
the call for a national demonstration on the 16th march refers to
another recent fact happened to Radio Onda Rossa (www.ondarossa.info)
recently: they got revoked by the ministry their permission to transmit
on 87.900Mhz which is being used by the radio since 1995; alltough ROR
exists since the 1977, date in which started transmitting on 93.300Mhz.

Radio Onda Rossa is a major italian community radio based in rome,
one of the promoters of the RadioGAP project (www.radiogap.net),
covering an area populated by more than 3 millions of people as of the
whole Lazio and part of Umbria.

ITALY INDYMEDIA UNDER ATTACK

This morning around 7.00, police knocked at the doors of a few social
centers: Gabrio in Torino, Cecco Rivolta in Firenze, TPO in Bologna, as
well as those of the Cobas offices in Taranto. The huge mobilitation (a
lot of cars, vans, and riot cops) was due to an order from Genova's
attorney.

The attorneys Andrea Canciani and Anna Canepa ordered to seize audio and
video material referring to Genova facts, focusing on what could deal
with the police raid at the Media Center and the massacre at the
Diaz-Pertini school.

The search warrant explains that such material would have been collected
through the Italy Indymedia website, and would be situated in the social
centers Gabrio, TPO, Cecco Rivolta, and in Cobas offices in Taranto, and
in other places (using an aleathory form which allows them to search and
seize at their pleasure).

Searches are still going on. Police is seizing computers, archives, and
all of the stuff that hundreds of italian activists need for their daily
cultural and political activities.

The search warrant locates these places as "Indymedia offices". Italy
Indymedia states that Indymedia has no offices, but works through the
thousands of people who contribute to the website, and commit themselves
to produce a free and independent information. Italy Indymedia decision
making and project processes take place over the internet, through open
and publicly accessible mailing lists and chatrooms. A daily and
cooperative effort carried on by hundreds of people, who won't be
threatened.

This morning, an attack has been struck against freedom of information.
A few places have been targeted, to exercise a political pressure on a
complex and manifold subject as Italy Indymedia.

The material seized in Bologna, Firenze, Torino, Taranto, just like all
of Indymedia stuff, is freely viewable on our website. And so are the
archives of our mailing lists, of our chats, and of all our activities.

Indymedia has nothing to hide.

Italy Indymedia, a network of independent media, reports a severe attack
to free information. We take note that minister Scajola, after speech,
is turning to facts. And Genova gets back under public attention. After
partial and smoky investigations which were supposed to find proof of
police violence, and while the dynamics of the murder of Carlo Giuliani
haven't been cleared yet, while the officals responsible of the public
order during those days are still holding their seats, and in a few
cases even got promoted.

in Rome for March,16th by Radio Onda Rossa.

INDYMEDIA UNDER ATTACK

Alle 7 di stamattina, le forze dell'ordine si sono presentate nel centro
sociale "Gabrio" di Torino, nella  casa occuapta Cecco Rivolta di
Firenze, TPO di Bologna e nella  sede dei Cobas di Taranto.
Numerosi mezzi (blindati, camionette, autovetture) e centinaia di agenti
in assetto antisommossa, hanno eseguito un ordine della Procura di 
Genova.

I magistrati Andrea Canciani e Anna Canepa chiedono di cercare e 
sequestrare materiale audio e video relativo ai fatti di Genova, con 
particolare riferimento agli episodi dell'irruzione delle forze 
dell'ordine nel Media Center e della mattanza della scuola Diaz-Pertini.

Il Decreto di perquisizione spiega che i suddetti materiali sarebbero 
stati raccolti attraverso il sito di Indymedia Italia e si troverebbero 
nei centri sociali Gabrio, Tpo, Cecco Rivolta e nella sede dei Cobas di 
Taranto e in altri luoghi (con una forma aleatoria che gli consente di 
effettuare perquisizioni e sequestri a loro piacimento).

Le perquisizioni sono ancora in corso. Le forze dell'ordine stanno
sequestrando computer, archivi, materiali di ogni genere, che servono al
lavoro quotidiano, culturale e politico, di centinaia di attivisti 
italiani.

Il mandato di perquisizione individua questi luoghi come "sedi di
indymedia". 
Indymedia Italia precisa che Indymedia non ha sedi, ma agisce
attraverso le migliaia di persone che pubblicano i loro materiali sul
sito e che operano per produrre un informazione libera e indipendente.
Indymedia Italia elabora progetti e prende decisioni attraverso
Internet: mailing list e chat di discussione, aperte e di pubblico 
dominio. Un lavoro quotidiano e collettivo cui partecipano centinaia di 
persone, che non si faranno intimidire.

Stamattina e' stato portato un attacco al cuore della liberta'
d'informazione. Sono stati colpiti dei luoghi, per esercitare pressione
politica su un soggetto molteplice e complesso come Indymedia Italia.

Il materiale sequestrato a Bologna, Firenze, Torino, Taranto, come tutti
i materiali di Indymedia e' liberamente consultabile al nostro indirizzo
Internet. Cosi' come gli archivi delle nostre mailing list, delle chat,
di tutta la nostra attivita'.

Indymedia lavora alla luce del sole.

Indymedia Italia, rete di media indipendenti, denuncia un gravissimo 
attacco all'informazione libera. Prendiamo atto che il ministro Scajola 
dopo le parole, passa ai fatti. E Genova torna all'ordine del giorno. 
Dopo fumose e parziali indagini per provare le violenze delle forze 
dell'ordine, mentre ancora resta da chiarire la dinamica dell'assassinio
di Carlo Giuliani, mentre i dirigenti che erano responsabili dell'ordine
pubblico in quei giorni sono rimasti al loro posto, e in qualche caso 
hanno ricevuto una promozione.  

Invitiamo tutt* ad unirsi a indymedia italia al corteo indetto per il 16
marzo a roma da radio onda rossa.
