PRESS RELEASE
Apollonia, Visual Arts Network
The European Community has recently announced the list of projects it has s=
elected for 2002 as part of its financing programme "Culture 2000".
Only one long-term co-operative project, presented by a French NGO with his=
headquarters in Strasbourg, features on this list: "Apollonia, Visual Arts=
Network".
This developing network takes its energy and its raison d'etre from the div=
ersity of unique cultures and the wealth of innovative and original forms o=
f artistic expression to be found in the outer regions of Europe.
A number of associates and partners contribute on a permanent basis to the =
development and elaboration of operations that encourage international mobi=
lity and exchanges of artists, artworks and multidisciplinary productions. =
The aim is to increase public awareness of the cultural particularities of =
other peoples, and to highlight the questions that artists pose about conte=
mporary society.
This network organises many events and various coproductions, in particular=
involving the regions of south-east Europe, the Black Sea an the Caucasus,=
Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet republics and so on.
The members of the network, and the team at Apollonia, European artistic ex=
changes, are delighted to see that there is a great deal of interest throug=
hout Europe for these little known and oft criticised forms of artistic exp=
ression.
After a number of years of hard work and shared passion, our network now ha=
s a new perspective, that of acting to obtain wider recognition for artists=
who find themselves outside the official systems, and to promote their wor=
k as part of the construction of a multicultural European space.=20
