Making art on the web
Saturday 9 November at Cittadellarte, Fondazione Pistoletto in
Biella, the Open Meeting: Fare arte in rete - MAKING ART ON THE WEB,
organized by UnDo.Net.
An encounter aimed at providing an overview of online art practices,
while calling attention to the problematic relationships between the
artistic languages utilized in the web and more 'traditional' forms
of expression.
The dialectical confrontation of viewpoints and positions of the
invited speakers will offer the possibility of understanding the
present state of making art on the web, launching a discussion that
is necessary in the context of Italian contemporary art.
The European partners in the project will explain their viewpoints on
making art on the web in their own countries (France, Austria,
Sweden), utilizing selected web art projects to illustrate their
positions and to widen the debate.
The 'talk show' will include the participation of Tatiana
Bazzichelli, an expert in antagonistic artistic practices like
Activism, Hacking, Artivism; Pier Luigi Capucci, professor of Mass
Communications at the University of Bologna, director of Noema and
expert on art and new media; Maria Cristina Cremaschi, expert on art
and technology, involved in the development of the 'Pizart' project,
which organizes one-day study sessions and events; Alessandro
Ludovico, director of Neural, new media culture review. Moderators:
Francesco Galluzzi, professor of aesthetics at the Fine Arts Academy
of Carrara, with years of experience in the study of the relationship
between art and new technologies; Claudio Parrini, an artist who
together with the groups UnDo.Net, Quinta Parete and XS2WEB creates
Internet projects and workshops, and has written books on this
subject.
The idea is to proceed through a phenomenological, historical and
economic study of online art projects, identifying the various
styles, poetics and connections to the art market.
Making Art on the Web is the Italian section of the European project
'Transimages Europeennes'.
The project focuses on present issues connected with the status of
the image in the era of globalization. Today the image has become the
main means of representation and communcation, both in the
technological sphere and in that of human relations; the
possibilities of duplication, transformation and diffusion on an
industrial scale influence our relationship with reality and
destabilize our traditional modes of identification. Thus the need
for reflection on the loss of stability of meaning of 'image' and
'reality'.
'Transimages Europeennes' is a project proposed by Synesthesie
(France), in the context of Culture 2000, together with Temporary Art
(Sweden); Springerin (Austria) and UnDo.Net (Italy).
The four associations have independently organized exhibitions and
conferences in their respective countries, with the shared objective
of encouraging interchange among the protagonists of the world of art
(artists and theorists) and comparing today's processes of artistic
creation with the images linked to the entertainment and media
industries.
Since 1995 UnDo.Net is the network of contemporary culture, a
collective art project, a device connecting and combining opinion
leaders and culture professionals. UnDo.Net is a creative workshop of
contemporary artists, designers and web experts, designing innovative
development of exhibitions, events and cultural initiatives, fully
experimenting with the new possibilities offered by the Internet for
the creation and enjoyment of contemporary art.
