Larger than Life - unter diesem Motto findet vom 23. April bis zum 27.
April in Osnabrueck eines der groessten  Multimediaereignisse in
Europa statt. Das European Media Art Festival (EMAF) laedt Fachleute
aus Kunst, Kultur, Wirtschaft und natuerlich ein interessiertes
Publikum ein, sich an fuenf Tagen einen Ueberblick ueber aktuelle
Trends und neueste Entwicklungen der Medienkunst zu verschaffen.
Aus mehr als 1.600 Einsendungen hat das Festivalteam ein spannendes
Programm zusammengestellt, das innovative kuenstlerische Ideen und
Projekte praesentiert. Gezeigt werden experimentelle Filme, Videos,
Performances, multimediale Installationen und innovative Arbeiten aus
dem Bereich der digitalen Medien wie CD-ROM, DVD und Internet.

//  KINO
Aus ueber 1.200 Filmen hat die Kommission 110 Filme und Videos fuer
das internationale Programm ausgewaehlt. In 24 Programmen werden
Spiel- und Experimentalfilme, Dokumentationen, Kunstvideos,
Digital-clips und Flashanimationen gezeigt. Darunter Filme, die die
Bilder der Medien, die zum kollektiven Gedaechtnis gehoeren, neu
betrachten und inszenieren.
Auf dem Festival wird der Preis der Deutschen Filmkritik und der
Werkleitz Award vergeben. Sonderprogramme zeigen Spielfilme, die
Szenarien einer moeglichen bio-technischen Zukunft entwerfen sowie
neue Filme aus Asien. Die Premiere von "Europe in Shorts" ergaenzt das
Programm.

//  RETROSPEKTIVEN
Eine umfassende Retrospektive ist dem kanadischen Filmkuenstler
Michael Snow gewidmet, der als der bedeutendste und einfussreichste
Experimentalfilmer gilt. Mit einer Hommage wird Egon Monk geehrt, der
in den 60er Jahren neue Impulse in die TV-Arbeit des NDR einbrachte.

Part I  Larger Than Life- Kunst und Biotechnologie

Laengst hat die Gentechnologie auch in die Kunst Einzug gehalten.
Prominente Gaeste werden Einblick in ihre Arbeit mit Bio- und
Gentechnologie geben. Teilnehmer sind:

//  AUSSTELLUNG
Die Ausstellung in der Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche praesentiert bis
zum 18. Mai unter dem Titel "MenschenBilder -Moments of Life"
Videokunst internationaler Kuenstler. Im Mittelpunkt steht die
Individualitaet und der Alltag des Menschen sowie seine mediale
Repraesentation und technische Reproduktion.

praesentiert das EMAF als Europa-Premiere Juan Manuel Echavarria, der
in seinen Werken die alltaegliche Gewalt in seiner Heimat Kolumbien
refektiert.

Die neuesten Trends der digitalen Kunst mit Arbeiten aus den Bereichen
Internet, CD-ROM, DVD.


// PERFORMANCES
"Cause and Effects", ein interaktives Filmprogramm, eine Symobiose von
Theater, Kino und Slapstick. Nobert Schliewes
Lichtinstallations-maschine, die akustische Rueckkopplungen in bewegte
Bilder verwandelt. "Stage TV", eine multimediale Buehnenshow, ein
spektakulaerer Mix aus Jonglage, Akrobatik und raffnierter
Videoanimation.


// INTERNATIONALES STUDENTENFORUM
Das Studentenforum praesentiert eine internationale Auswahl
studentischer Videoarbeiten und Installationen. Im Rahmen des
Hochschultages stellen europaeische Hochschulen ihre
medienorientierten Studiengaenge vor.

// VEEJAY-NAECHTE
Die Kunst des veejaying ist fester Bestandteil der Club-Kultur. An
drei Abenden erzeugen Veejays aus ganz Europa mit ihren neuesten Mixes
eine einzigartige Atmosphaere aus Sound und aufwendigen
Videoprojektionen.

"Larger than Life" is the leitmotif of one of Europe's greatest
multimedia events, taking place in Osnabrueck from 23 to 27 April. The
European Media Art Festival (EMAF) invites not only specialist from
the fields of art, culture and commerce but also, of course,
interested members of the public, to obtain an overview of current
trends and latest developments in media art over a period of five
days.
Out of 1.600 entries the festival's team has compiled an exciting
program that presents innovative creative ideas and projects. On
display will be experimental films, videos, performances, multimedia
ineallations, and innovative works of the field of digital media such
as CD-ROM, DVD, and the internet.

// CINEMA
The jury has selected over 110 productions from a total of over 1.200
films for the international programme. 24 programmes will present
features and experimental films, documentaries, art videos, digital
clips and flash animations. Among these, films which review and
re-edit images from the media, which are part of our collective
memory.
Both the Preis der Deutschen Filmkritik and the Werkleitz Award for
exceptional digital media will be awarded at the festival. Special
programmes present feature films describing scenarios of a possible
bio-technological future, as well as new productions from Asia. The
premiere of "Europe in Shorts" completes the programme.

// RETROSPECTIVES
This year's retrospective is dedicated to the Canadian film artist
Michael Snow, who is one of the moe well-known and the most
influential international experimental film-maker. A homage is
dedicated to Egon Monk, who as the director of NDR television drama
brought new impulses to TV work in the 1960s.

Genetic engineering has long penetrated art. Prominent participants
will give visitors an insight into their work with bio-technology and
genetic engineering. Participants are:

// EXHIBITION
The exhibition in the art gallery Domenican Church entitled
"MenschenBilder - Moments of Life", which can be seen until 18th of
May, presents video installations by international artists focusing on
the themes of man's individuality and everyday life, as well as his
representation in the media and man's technological reproduction.

In cooperation with the Erich Maria Remarque-Peace Centre the EMAF
presents a European premiere of the Colombian artist Juan Manuel
Echavarria, whose works reflect the everyday violence in his home
country.

// PERFORMANCE
"Cause and Effects", an interactive film programm, a symobiosis of
theater, cinema and slapstick. Nobert Schliewes light installation
maschine that transforms acoustic feedback into moving images. "Stage
TV", a multimedia stage show, a spectacular mix of juggling,
arcrobatics and video animation.

// ELECTRONIC LOUNGE
Current CD-Roms, DVDs and websites indicate the latest trends in
digital arts.

// INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM
In cooperation with international universities and academies the
Student Forum presents a selection of current productions by new
talents. European universities are invited to introduce their
media-orientated study courses at the "Collegiate Day".

// VEEJAY-NIGHTS
The art of veejaying has become an integral part audio-visual club
culture. On three evenings veejays from all over Europe present their
latest mixes creating a unique atmosphere of sound and video
projections.
