>>About this Project

A guest is invited to sit in front of a television holding in one hand a
live microphone and, in the other, a remote control to shift through the
News channels. A camera captures the television monitor. The voice of the
guest is streamed along with what appears on the TV monitor.

During the next months, a number of guests will be invited to this on-going
project, each session will be archived on-line (link below). Past

"Television (an address)" is a project by François Bucher, in collaboration
with Drazen Pantic and Valdez Projects. Thomas Zummer is the project's
latest guest.

1. Go to http://open4all.info/add-news/08_07_03_Zummer
2. Depending on your connection speed, click on the link "Zummer-T1" or
"Zummer-56k".
3. Adjust screen-size and volume.

Note: You may need to download Quicktime 6.1.1 at
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ (its free). Once you have
Quicktime, click on the link at any time after 6:30pm (New York time) on
Thursday August 7 to confirm that you are receiving the stream.  If you
still can't get the stream go to "Quicktime Preferences" under
"Preferences"; then click on "Connection"; then "Transport Setup"; then
choose "http" as your "Transport Protocol". Once the player buffers you
should be able to see an image. If you lose the signal, please close the
player and open a new one.

>>About this Week's Guest

Thomas Zummer is an artist, scholar, writer and curator Recent publications
include ³Projection and Dis/embodiment: Genealogies of the Virtual,² a
catalogue essay for Into the Light: The Projected Image in American Art
1964-1977 (Whitney Museum/Abrams), CRASH: Nostalgia for the Absence of
Cyberspace (with Robert Reynolds) and ³What the Hell is That?² (Beehive
Microtitles #1), a digital e-book on cinema and the taxonomy of monsters. He
is currently completing a book, Intercessionary Technologies:
Archive/Database/Interface, on the early history of reference systems. Mr
Zummer¹s works have shown worldwide, with recent exhibitions at TENT/Witte
de Wit Museum/Rotterdam, Marcel Sitcoske Gallery in San Francisco, and White
Box and Angel/Orensanz in NYC, and he has forthcoming exhibitions in Paris,
London, Edinburgh, Brussels, Toronto and Austin, Texas. Thomas Zummer is a
frequent lecturer on philosophy and the history of technology, and currently
teaches in the Critical Studies Department at New York University. In
2002-03 he will be visiting professor in the Transmedia Programme at the
Ecole des beaux arts/Sint Lukas in Brussels, Belgium. Thomas Zummer lives
and works in Brooklyn, NY.
