Zenomap, a presentation of new work from Scotland for the Venice Biennale
Exhibition: Palazzo Giustinian-Lolin / Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi San
Vidal 2893, Venice
13 June 2 November 2003, 10 am 6 pm Tuesday Sunday, closed on Monday
Claire Barclay, Jim Lambie and Simon Starling have been chosen to
represent Scotland in the exhibition that is part of Zenomap, a
presentation of new work from Scotland for this years Venice
Biennale. The exhibition will show works specially commissioned from
the three artists in a magnificent venue comprising five majestic
rooms in the seventeenth-century Palazzo Giustinian-Lolin,
overlooking the Grand Canal near the Accademia bridge.
Screenings and events: Palestra and playground behind Belle Arti
Hotel, Rio Terr Antonio Foscarini, Dorsoduro 12, 13, 14 June
Alongside the main exhibition a screening and events programme will
run in a more contemporary venue (a school gym), a few minutes' walk
away from the exhibition venue, in Dorsoduro in the opening week of
the Biennale. This programme of live events, performances and
screenings will include newly commissioned work from a wide range of
artists including Dave Allen, Katy Dove, Graham Fagen, Luke Fowler,
Rob Kennedy, Torsten Lauschmann, Rosalind Nashashibi, Stephen
Sutcliffe, Joanne Tatham and Tom OSullivan.
Commissions for publications / web / audio: New work is also
commissioned to accompany the Zenomap project in the form of posters,
flyers, t-shirts, audio and web based work. They will be distributed
during the opening week in Venice and available for viewing /
listening via the website or in the publication that will come out
later in the year. Amongst these contributions will be new work by
Beagles and Ramsay, David Blyth, Kate Davis, Colin Kirkpatrick
(Cowboy Puck), Michael Mallet, Dan Norton, Gary Rough, David Sherry,
David Shrigley, Ian Stephen, Lucy Skaer and Hanneline Visnes.
Zenomap is curated by Francis McKee and Kay Pallister.
Zenomap is initiated, supported and promoted by the Scottish Arts
Council and the British Council. The project is part of the Extra 50
group of exhibitions of this years Venice Biennale.
