DRIFT is a programme of short films by UK sound artists and film-makers
which reveal the cinematic relationships between sound and image. DRIFT
plays with our aural perceptions, featuring along the way bursts of
sound art, noise, experimental music, field recordings, urban and rural
soundscapes.
"Sound is a living, relevant medium in our predominantly visual
culture", says Iliyana Nedkova who curated the programme. "Perhaps
attuned to the theories of acoustic ecology, which promotes the
appreciation of natural soundscapes, some of the DRIFT artists explore
the energy elements: air, wind, earth, sun, water. Others attempt to
redefine our visual and sonic perceptions of performance art, digital
animation, and even playback technology".
DRIFT artists were selected from over 80 open submission entries and
following further curatorial research. The artists featured are Richard
Ashrowan, Victoria Clare Bernie, Susan Black, Chris Bowman, Butler
Brothers, John Carson, Peter Collis, Michelle Deignan, Alexander
Hamilton, Ian Helliwell, Rob Kennedy & diskono, Paddy Kernohan, Holger
Mohaupt, Jayne Parker, Emily Richardson, Kelly Richardson, Susanne
Ramsenthaler, Aura Satz, Simon Tricker and Shannon Tofts.

After its world premiere in Edinburgh, DRIFT will tour to other venues
