Web.cast/Net.radio - Slip.stream of the Net
With r a d i o q u a l i a (UK) and pingfm (DE)
Brecht's dream about a democracy in broadcasting may be coming true.
For a networked, global community of artists and activists, webcasts and
net.radio intertwine different formats such as audio, still & moving image
and text within realtime performance spaces, or "temporary autonomous
zones" (hakim bey).
Honor Harger & Adam Hyde (UK) from r a d i o q u a l i a , together with
Jan Brueggemeier, Lars Mai and Sebastian Seidel from pingfm (DE), are
among the outstanding creators in these new zones.
With them, we will explore some exciting questions.
Does the webcast itself support a unique aesthetic via streaming data
reduction, transmission artifacts and recursive processing?
For the global media scene, how does net.radio affect media activism,
tactical media and open source research?
This month, please join Honor, Adam, Jan, Lars and Sebastian for a fresh
exploration of the slipstream of the net on -empyre- soft-skinned space

(http://www.radioqualia.net ) experiments with the concept of artistic
broadcasting, using the internet and traditional media forms, such as
radio and television, as primary tools. We are also interested in ways
that audio can be used to illuminate abstract ideas and processes. We work
in gallery, performance, broadcast and publishing contexts.
r a d i o q u a l i a are currently producing a major project about radio
astronomy with the support of the Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art,
Science, and Technology. r a d i o q u a l i a were awarded the
Leonardo- at rt Outsiders 2003 New Horizons Prize together with the
participants of the Open Sky installation in September 2003.

pingfm (DE)
(http://www.pingfm.org ) focusses on the live production of audio and
video.
from the early beginning in 2000 the members of pingfm have been
fascinated by three modes of working with streaming media over, around and
within networked areas: their aesthetics, their global interaction and
their potential of linking up different formats such as club, theatre,
concert, cinema, radio, installation, performance etc.
