Riga Center for New Media Culture RIXC (http://rixc.lv) is pleased to announce the new publication of ACOUSTIC SPACE #5: TRANS CULTURAL MAPPING.
The new edition of ACOUSTIC SPACE critically engages with ideas of networked locality throughout four chapters:
-- Endocolonization,
-- Locative Media,
-- Tactical Cartography,
-- Spectrum Ecology.
Publication has emerged on the occasion of the 7th festival ART+COMMUNICATION: TRANS EUROPEAN CULTURAL MAPPING (http://rixc.lv/04) that took place in Riga in October 2004 and featured the activities of the Locative Media network and collaborative mapping initiatives
(http://locative.net).
ACOUSTIC SPACE #5: TRANS CULTURAL MAPPING includes texts by the likes of Richard Barbrook, Brank Curcic, Ewen Chardonett, Marko Peljhan, Geert Lovink, Normunds Kozlovs, Kristine Briede, Cory Doctorow, Brian Holmes, Simon Worthington, Jo Walsh, Marc Tuters, Bruce Sterling, Valdis Krebs, Richard Rogers, Ben Russell, Wilfried Hou Je Bek, Zita Joyce, Andrew Paterson, John Tackara, Drew Hemment, and many others.
The publication are available at the DEAF festival in Rotterdam, November 8 - 21, 2004 (http://www.deaf04.nl) as well as by the e-mail order from RIXC (rixc AT rixc.lv)
The publication is supported by the Culture 2000 Programme of European Union, Latvian Cultural Capital Foundation, and Riga City Council, as a part of the TCM project.

NEW! -- CD [RADIO ASTRONOMY] is a collection of sound pieces by various artists, featuring recordings of the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus made by r a d i o q u a l i a as part of their Radio Astronomy project (http://www.radio-astronomy.net) at the VIRAC radiotelescope in Irbene, Latvia.
Among artists: clausthome, scanner, zy'z x, si-cut.db, voldemars johansons, max nullo, i.e._wlltts, and many others.

DVD [RT-32: ACOUSTIC.SPACE.LAB] (reprint) - a multi-media exploration of the VIRAC radio telescope, a 32 m dish antenna in Irbene, Latvia and introduction of the international ACOUSTIC.SPACE.LAB symposium that took place in August 2001 at the site of the RT-32 in Irbene, Latvia.
