SMART Project Space, Galerie Diana Stigter & Artimo invite you to the
book launch of Hit & Run / SMART Project Space and Void / Amie Dicke on
Saturday 27th November 2004 at 8pm, followed by a reception party with
snacks, drinks and music.

Hit & Run features projects by the artists Dave Allen, Gustavo Artigas,
Fabienne Audéoud, Mark Bain, Marc Bijl, James Beckett, Alicia Framis,
Funky Projects, Begoña Muñoz, Dan Shipsides, Joanne Tatham and Tom
OSullivan, Debora Warner, Yvonne Dröge Wendel. All projects were
prepared and executed in Istanbul between 23rd June and 28th July 2004.

The series of performances and interventions offered an appealing
perspective within the context of the citys vibrancy and its public
life. Regarding the geographical and historical position and importance
of Constantinople and Istanbul as barrier and bridge between Europe and
Asia, the interventions generated a dialogue wherein cultural
differences were bridged via the general structures that bind our social
lives.

Platform Garantis program in 2004 is one which explores the borders of
institutional hospitality. Vasif Kortun drew a parallel between Platform
Garanti in Istanbul and SMART Project Space in Amsterdam in terms of
aims and ideology and invited SMART Project Space to create a program
for Platform that would take place during the course of one month,
implying that the space would be given over to a foreign institution not
aware of the nuances of the local discourse that would prepare the
program from another country, to then execute it in Istanbul and
subsequently disappear from the scene as quickly again.

We had chosen SMART Project Space as a partner institution that would
make our weaknesses evident with their sophisticated internet
technology, public accessibility and experience, but also as a
comparable institution with a residency and exhibition program that we
felt was as reckless as ours. What we had not realized before that, as a
temporarily itinerant institution - in the process of moving to a new
space - SMART Project Space would make itself at home in Istanbul (Vasif
Kortun, introduction to Hit & Run)

Hit & Run is published by SMART Project Space and distributed by Artimo
and Idea Books and comprises of full colour images of all the projects
realised throughout Istanbul, including introduction texts by Vasif
Kortun and Thomas Peutz and artist texts by Una Henry and Thomas Peutz.
Hit & Run was organised by SMART Project Space, Amsterdam in
collaboration with Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Centre, Istanbul.
