Die Stadt Linz sucht: Künstlerische/-n GeschäftsführerIn 
(IntendantIn) zur Ausrichtung des Projektes Kulturhauptstadt Europas 
Linz 2009 (Linz 2009 GmbH) Im Laufe dieses Jahres soll die 
Nominierung der Stadt Linz zur Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2009 durch 
die Gremien der EU erfolgen. Die organisatorische Abwicklung und 
programmatische Ausrichtung des Kulturhauptstadtjahres erfolgt durch 
eine Linz 2009 Kulturhauptstadt Europas Organisations-GmbH. Für die 
Geschäftsführung werden ab dem ehest möglichen Zeitpunkt zwei 
GeschäftsführerInnen (künstlerisch und kaufmännisch) bestellt.Der 
vielseitige Aufgabenbereich des/-r künstl. Geschäftsführers/-in 
umfasst die inhaltliche Programmkonzeptiondes Projektes Linz 2009 
Kulturhauptstadt Europas und dessen Abwicklung. Wir erwarten von 
dieser Position, das Programm in partnerschaftlicher Form mit den 
lokalen und regionalen AkteurInnen im Sinne eines nachhaltigen 
Prozesses für das Kulturland Oberösterreich und die Kulturstadt Linz 
und mit Visionskraft und Krea- tivität in einem Team zu entwickeln 
und umzusetzen. Im Hinblick auf den umfassenden und 
verantwortungsvollen Aufgabenbereich suchen wir eine Persönlichkeit 
mit: * hoher künstlerischer Fachkompetenz und internationaler 
Reputation in Bereichen der Kunst und Kultur sowie die nachweisbare 
Fähigkeit zur inhaltlichen Ausrichtung und Steuerung des 
Gesamtprojektes Linz 2009 auf internationalem Standard und mit 
europäischer Dimension * Offenheit gegenüber der gesamten 
inhaltlichen Bandbreite des aktuellen internationalen Kunst- und 
Kulturgeschehens (insbesondere auch bezüglich Neuer Medien und 
Technologien) * persönlicher Identifizierung mit dem Kulturprofil der 
Stadt Linz (insbesondere mit dem Kulturentwicklungsplan der Stadt 
Linz) und der Kulturregion Oberösterreich * persönlichem Netzwerk und 
internationalen Verbindungen betreffend die europäi- sche Kunst-, 
Kultur-, Medien- und PR-Szene, sowie kommunikatives und professionel- 
les Auftreten in der Öffentlichkeit und im Umgang mit PartnerInnen 
und Interessens- vertreterInnen * Teamorientierung im Rahmen eines 
kooperativen Geschäftsführungsmodells * umfangreicher 
Führungserfahrung und hoher sozialer Kompetenz, sehr guten 
Sprachkenntnissen (DeutschEnglisch) Die Tätigkeit der Intendanz ist 
für den Zeitraum 2005 bis 2010 ausgeschrieben, idealerweise wäre eine 
Funktionsausübung bereits ab Sommer/Herbst 2005 vorgesehen. Bei 
vertrag-lichen Verpflichtungen, die einer sofortigen vollen 
Funktionsübernahme entgegenstehen, ist gegebenenfalls eine an die 
individuelle Situation angepasste Vertragsgestaltung möglich 
(zeitlich abgestuftes Einstiegsmodell). Die Bereitschaft der Ausübung 
dieser Tätigkeit von Linz aus ist Voraussetzung. Die Position wird 
nach einer Vorauswahl und Hearing befristet auf 5 Jahre (bis 
Mitte/Ende 2010) vergeben. Im Sinne des Frauenförderungsprogrammes

The City of Linz requires:

an Artistic Manager (Director, M/F)
for the management of the Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture Project
(Linz 2009 GmbH)

In the course of this year the responsible EU committees will 
nominate the city of Linz the European Capital of Culture for 2009. 
The organization, coordination and development of the programme for 
Linz's year as the European Capital of Culture is the responsibility 
of the Linz 2009 Kulturhauptstadt Europas Organisations-GmbH. We are 
seeking to appoint two project managers (an artistic director and a 
business manager), to begin as soon as possible.
The wide range of tasks awaiting the artistic director includes 
determining the content of the programme for the Linz 2009 European 
Capital of Culture project and running the programme. The artistic 
director is expected to bring visionary strength and creativity to 
the development and running of the programme, which he/she will carry 
out as part of a team in partnership with local and regional agencies 
in a way that fosters the sustainable development of Upper Austria as 
a province of culture and of Linz as a city of culture.


In view of the scope and responsibilities the post entails, 
applicants should possess the following qualities:

 profound specialized knowledge of the arts and an international 
reputation in the fields of arts and culture as well as the proven 
ability to organize and manage all aspects of the Linz 2009 project 
to an international standard and with a European perspective

 openness towards every aspect of current developments in 
international arts and culture (especially with regard to content, 
new media and new technologies)

 personal identification with the cultural profile of the City of 
Linz (and especially with the plan for cultural development of the 
City of Linz) and of the cultural region of Upper Austria

 a personal network and international contacts in Europe in the 
fields of arts, culture, media and public relations, as well as 
excellent communication skills and the ability to speak confidently 
and professionally in public and with partners and all persons with 
vested interests in the project

 ability to work in a team in the context of a cooperative management model

 extensive experience of management, and excellent social and 
language skills (German, English)

The post of artistic director is to be filled from 2005 to 2010, 
ideally beginning in summer/autumn 2005. In the event that current 
contractual obligations prevent you from taking on the position 
full-time initially, a contract can be agreed upon that takes your 
current situation into account (gradual assumption of the post). The 
position is located in Linz, and the willingness to be based in Linz 
is a prerequisite for a successful application. Following a 
preselection process and interviews the post will be awarded for a 
period of five (5) years (until mid-/end 2010). In accordance with 
the programme for the promotion of women in the City of Linz, 
applications from women are especially welcome. In the event that 
applicants have the same qualifications, women will be given priority.
