The online resource and context project "Media Art Net", which went
online in January 2004 with a beta version, is now fully implemented
presenting extensive audiovisual materials plus current discourses on
media art in an international context and with free access to the online
platform. Editors are Rudolf Frieling and Dieter Daniels.
The first module, related to a "Survey of Media Art", featured ten
essays and audiovisual material to accompany these essays. The second
part is now online featuring 8 additional Key Topics including 55 essays
altogether (selected essays published in book form as vol. 2) on
Aesthetics of the Digital, Art and Cinematography; Cyborg Bodies;
Generative Tools; Mapping and Text; Photo/Byte; Public Sphere_s, Sound
and Image. A network of curators and writers explore seminal interfaces
between media and art presenting a variety of approaches and contexts.
New artistic projects commissioned for the online platform include: Sven
Bauer, "5 Rooms", Andreja Kuluncic, "Cyborg Web Shop", Iván Marino, "In
Death's Dream Kingdom", Warren Sack, "Agonistics – A Language Game".
To reach users and readers alike, two book publications accompany the
online platform. Vol. 2 on "Key Topics" presents selected essays by
co-curators and authors Inke Arns, Dieter Daniels, Steve Dietz, Rudolf
Frieling, Susanne Holschbach, Verena Kuni, Gregor Stemmrich, Yvonne
Volkart. The volume is a follow-up to volume 1 "Survey of media art".
Both volumes are accompanied by related multimedia and audiovisual
materials online.
