Pat O'Neill
The Decay of Fiction
Dienstag, 25. April, 20 Uhr

The Decay of Fiction
Tuesday, 25 April, 8pm

Since the 1960ies Pat O'Neill is one of the most reknown American avantgarde filmmakers. Apart from that he earns his money also in the commerical film business. With his company Lookout Mountains Films he produced the effects for Hollywoodfilms like "The Return of the Jedi" and "The Game".

"The Decay of Fiction" is a film based on the legendary Hotel Ambassador in Hollywood, that today is a decayed, morbid building that was taken down recently. Pat O'Neill filmed the once luxurious lobby, the giant restaurant and the adjoined bar, the casino and the rooms, including the luxurious suites. The walls have cracks and the color is peeling off, the green is brown and the carpets of the famous Coconut Grove are covered with mould. The swimming pool is empty and the ball room, in which Bobby Kennedy was dying, is locked, the windows closed. This ruin is filled with memories, which O'Neill brings back to life through intertwining reality and hallucination.
