Light_Paper_Sound - Video and Audio Installation at 911 Media Arts
Gallery
February 15th - March 22nd, 2006

SEATTLE - 911 Media Arts Gallery presents the exhibition
Light_Paper_Sound. This exhibition is an installation using randomly
selected video projected on three dimensional paper surfaces synced
with audio tracks played on speakers hidden in the sculptures. The
overall effect creates a unique environment of dynamic color and sound.
The works collaborators are artists Joseph Gray (sculpture/video) and
Gabriel Herbertson (audio) with original music by Beth Fleenor
(clarinet) and Paris Hurley (violin). The show opens February 15th at
7PM and runs until March 22nd 2006. 911 Media Arts Gallery is located
at 402 9th Ave N. Seattle, WA 98109. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday,
1pm-7pm (or by appointment). For further information call (206)
682-6552.

Light_Paper_Sound is constructed of paper cut-outs folded and curved
into three dimensional forms and suspended in the gallery space. The
paper is used as a sculptural "canvas" for the projected light from LCD
video projectors being fed imagery generated by computers running an
original software application, called aXiMaL, written in Flash
Actionscript by artist Joseph Gray. Small speakers are hidden in the
sculptures and play audio recordings also selected and modified by the
software to accompany the visuals.

About the Artists

Joseph Gray earned a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in 1999,
focusing in video and sculpture. Since then his work has primarily
been seen as live video accompaniment to musicians from the Seattle
area, playing in various venues in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
The imagery is often completely generated on-the-fly during the shows
and draws from a large repertoire of abstract and ornamental styles.
His work has also taken the form of internet and e-mail art, and
sculptural video installation. Joseph works as a graphic designer and
web developer by trade.

Gabriel Christian Herbertson was born in Taos, NM in 1975. He was
raised in the mountains on clean air and deep night skies and love.
(plus a little tofu and millet, supplemented with greenchile) Besides
trumpeting, Gabe is a unique visual artist and general digital madman.
He is also known to the electronic, word based groove world as EMID the
archangel of vengeance. Deep in the pocket, from the underground of
binary code and expressive poetry, to the one surface of many faces,
Gabe is a product of synergy and synchronicity. Composition
improvisation, performance and reflective thought are common themes of
his expressions and musings.

Paris Hurley is an alum of Cornish College of the Arts. She has
recently joined the Degenerate Art Ensemble and has played and composed
music for a wide variety of projects.

Clarinetist Beth Fleenor has been surfing genres since arriving in
Seattle in 1998. Her bombastically refined sound and organic approach
to improvisation have earned her performance opportunities in a variety
of settings including nightclubs, concert halls, festivals, recordings,
and art installations.
