m-cult news 03/06
At m-cult, the m2hz television project proceeds with new partners, and
the first programme of 2006 - Map to Postfordist Life - has been
launched. Running in parallel with channel development, negotiations
about a new production environment of urban media are now in their
final phase.

*m2hz channel proceeds
The m2hz television project, initiated in Autumn 2005, proceeds with
enthusiasm and new partners. Currently over 20 organisations and
groups, representing media / performing arts, local groups and civil
society, participate in developing the channel.
m2hz aims to create visibility to cultural producers and civil groups
and to catalyze critical debates and social participation. The project
challenges traditional notions of broadcasting by emphasising a
distributed and collaborative mode of production. Already the m2hz
process has catalyzed the creation of new participatory program
concepts, production models and collaborations.
In 2006, m2hz partners produce programming for internet and mobile
platforms while the ground is prepared for a digital television
channel, to be launched in 2007.

*map to postfordist life opens the programme in 2006
Map to Postfordist Life discusses transformations in labour, economy,
politics and life during the shift to a knowledge economy and the
postfordist mode of production.
The programme documents a series of lectures and talks in which
researchers across disciplines chart the transition through a set of
keywords. The issues range from investment behaviour to depression,
from the attention economy to the conciliation of work and family.
m2hz renders the talks on a wiki platform which enables a
collaborative commentary between participants. The project thus also is
an experiment in collaborative knowledge production and learning,
produced in collaboration with Tutkijaliitto Researcher's alliance and
the Helsinki School of Economics.
The lectures are in Finnish, except for special appearances by the
international guests - Brian Holmes, Ned Rossiter, Maurizio Lazzarato,
and Christian Marazzi.

*urban media lab in development to helsinki
m-cult's project to establish a lab for urban media now has a concrete
target. The plan is to launch a collaborative production environment at
Kansatalo ('People's house', named after an extinct insurance company)
located in Kurvi, Eastern Helsinki.
The Kurvi space is aimed to support production of urban and media
culture and to house a continuous series of workshops, seminars and
debates.
Negotiations about the project are now in their final phase, and
results are expected in May 2006.
