Public Art as Instrument: a one-day Seminar on Forms and Preconditions
in Public Space (Gothenburg)
Date: 25 Nov 2006ĮTime: 14:00 - 18:00ĮPlace: Gothenburg
Iaspis in collaboration with Fotohgskolan, Gteborgs Konsthall,
Gteborgs Konstmuseum, Gteborgs Kulturfrvaltning, Konstepidemien and
Konsthgskolan Valand.
Public space is rapidly becoming more and more commercialised and
citizens' behaviour in this space has increasingly had to adapt to
market forces. At the same time, art has been instrumentalised in
order to fit into the prevailing policies and to serve market values.
Against the background of this historical development, the seminar
addresses the preconditions for working with a public art that is
based on participation.
- What characterises the field for such art projects?
- How do they function and for whom?
- What strategies do artists use to establish local and "inter-local" contacts?
- What possibilities exist for developing forms and preconditions for
art projects in public spaces?
