DEREK KRECKLER
NEW WORK
An interdisciplinary approach is fundamental to Derek Kreckler's
practice, which has embraced many forms: performance, sound works,
installation, internet and video. He has exhibited and performed
throughout Australia and internationally for more than 20 years
including at major international events such as Biennale of Sydney
(1982, 1986, 1990 & 2004), Adelaide Biennale of Australian Art
(2004), and the 2003 Clemenger Contemporary Art Award, National
Gallery of Victoria. Solo exhibitions include Derek Kreckler:
Downstairs Performance Space, Sydney (2005); The looking and other
outcomes Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne (2003); and Blind Ned
Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2001). He has
exhibited internationally in Kwangju, MumbaI, New York and London.
Kreckler was awarded a prestigious twelve month residency at the
Institute of Contemporary Arts in New York (PS1) and was a
participant in the Fire and Life project between India and Australia.
His work for radio, Yurabirong, commissioned by The Listening Room,
ABC Radio National, has been broadcast many times. In 2000 Kreckler
was awarded an Australia Council New Media Arts Fellowship. His work
features in the collections of the Mitchell Research Library, Sydney,
The Wesfarmers Collection, Art Bank and numerous private collections.
A graduate of the South Australian School of Art, Derek Kreckler
holds a Master's degree from Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney
University. He is represented by Margaret Moore Contemporary Art,
Perth.
Derek's new work consists of an installation with video and still
photographs, Untitled Antidote, and a two-channel video installation,
Flash in the Pan. Derek will also be showing two new photographic
images.

EXPERIMENTAL ART FOUNDATION curates its exhibition program to
represent new work that expands current debates and ideas in
contemporary visual art. The EAF incorporates a gallery space,
bookshop and artists studios.
