*Urban Screens Manchester

Conference 11 - 12 October 2007
Art + Events 11 - 14 October 2007
*
A two-day conference exploring the exciting and far-ranging
possibilities of urban screens in the 21st century
+ a dynamic four-day programme of public screen artworks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*WHAT IS THE URBAN SCREENS CONFERENCE?
*• The omnipresence of public displays – LED, LCD, plasma screens,
projections,
to name a few – demands a critical reflection of their impact on cities
and our own
perceptions of them. At the same time they offer new possibilities for
artistic and
non-commercial use, for community development and play in all its formats.

• Urban Screens Manchester provides a dynamic forum for exploring and
discussing
the creative potential of urban screens in the 21st century, with a
specific focus
on the creation of content, commissioning/funding, curatorship and
their architectural possibilities.

*WHO IS IT FOR?
*• Urban Screens Manchester is a conference for those with an interest
in, and passion for,
future developments in the visual arts: artists, curators, designers,
urban regeneration
practitioners, city centre architects and planners, broadcasters,
futurologists and theorists.
All of you are part of the debate and the future of urban screens.

*WHO ARE THE SPEAKERS?
*• More than 40 inspirational international experts
such as keynote speakers Jochen Gerz and Erkki Huhtamo.

*WHERE IS IT?
*• The conference takes place at Cornerhouse Manchester’s international
centre for
contemporary visual arts and film, 11-12 October, with an introductory
welcome and
keynote speeches at Manchester Town Hall on the morning of 11 October.
