DO YOUR WORK: TWO-WEEK PERFORMANCE AT THE FOUNDRY EXPLORES TIME AND MONEY,
FEBRUARY 5 16, 2008.
Canadian-born and UK-based performance and media artist S. ASTRID BIN
begins her latest performance on Tuesday, February 5 2008 at The Foundry
(Old Street tube). This performance, entitled DO YOUR WORK, explores the
complex relationship between the time, work and money.
Beginning on Tuesday, February 5 in the Foundrys vault, an underground
two-room facility, Bin will spend ten evenings (5.30-11pm) producing works
of art to be hung on the wall to visually represent the amount of time
spent working in the space. During this time she will be accessible to
viewers who visit. On Saturday February 16 another performance begins
everything on the walls is on sale for £20 per piece, regardless of size,
content or quality. Price negotiation will not be tolerated. First come,
first served. As work is sold it will be taken down and replaced with a
square of paper reading £20, visually transforming the work done into
tangible monetary assets.
A private viewing is available to associates and members of the press on
Saturday, February 9, from 8-11pm, however no sales are available until
Saturday, February 16. The Foundry is located at 86 Great Eastern Street,
London, EC2A 3JL (Old St tube, Exit 2) and is closed on Mondays.
S. Astrid Bin is a performance and media artist. Past endeavors have
included being taped naked to a floor, being kissed by hundreds of
strangers, shaving her head, making a picture of a bird out of 538 pieces
of toast and feeding it to pigeons, occupying a phone box for 24 hours and
taking calls from strangers, and attempting to make a million dollars in a
year. She has received death threats, hate mail and international press.
