:: Afropixel, 8-16 May 2008

The first *Afropixel* focused on free software and artistic practices and
grassroot initiatives in Africa. Jean-Noël Montagné and Jérôme Abel
from Art Sensitif + Bricolabs gave a workshop on sensors and the use
of Pure Data software.

Afropixel is organised by Kër Thiossane, Villa for art and multimedia
practices. It aims to encourage the democratization of multimedia tools,
and their appropriation by artists and local audiences, to enable them
to participate in the international development of electronic arts and
grassroot networks.

WikiAfrica/Palabre is a project aiming to 'africanise' Wikipedia through
different networks, research projects, publications and events. WikiAfrica
contributes texts, citations, images, audio and audiovisual documents to
online and offline Wikimedia projects.

WikiAfrica Art, the project that brings African artists and African art on
Wikipedia has been launched in connection with the first Afropixel festival
in Dakar.

:: Pixelache Summerschool, 7-13 August 2008

The first Pixelache Helsinki Summerschool will be organised
in the pleasant Baltic sea island Kemiö, a couple of hours away
from Helsinki. The summer camp is hosted by artist/electronics
hacker Tuomo Tammenpää (www.misusage.org). The purpose
of the camp is to learn about electronics and solar energy and
meanwhile enjoy the Finnish summer ;)

The third edition of Pixelvärk will take place in the end of September 2008.
Not much details can be revealed of the event at the moment - except that
the event will be put together in a very unusual way.

How does code dream? What are the dreams of code?

Piksel08 examines the other side of code, an alternative side to a
hard-coded reality of work and play. Open hardware and free
software project a utopic vision, yet exist within economies of
capital, the dream factory of mainstream technology. Within the
chance meeting of sewing machine and umbrella on the dissecting
table, hardware and software are flattened.

Piksel08: code dreams explores the dreams of this soft machine;
bachelors coding for pleasure, reverse engineering paranoiac
constructs of the real, automatic coding practice, soft hardware,
and everyday magic.

Open call for projects is coming out very soon!

The first Pikslaverk event will take place in Reykjavik between 6-9
November. The event is organised by Lorna and the collaborating
venues/organisations are Reykjavik Municipal Museum - Hafnarhusid
and the Icelandic Academy of the Arts.

The future plan of Pixelazo activities in Colombia is to focus on organising
an artist residency near Santa Marta, on the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
The artist residency will be connected to workshops organised with local
universities and additional events in Medellin and/or Bogota.
