ART+COMMUNICATION 2008

...Electromagnetic fields are biologically
active. Emitting from every electronic device,
electromagnetic fields affect our body and the
living nature. They interact with the natural
emissions and intersect the boundaries of our
planet. Invisible and omnipresent,
electromagnetic fields have become ghosts of the
modern world...

The 10th edition of the "Art+Communication"
festival, organised by RIXC, takes place in Riga
from October 16 - 25, 2008. Entitled SPECTROPIA,
this year festival continues to illuminate
artistic explorations within the invisible space
of electromagnetic spectrum surrounding us.

* Experimental film and video programme, curated
by Erwin van 't Hart (NL), is a special part of
the SPECTROPIA festival programme.

On October 17 and 18 screening of two abstract

audiovisual account of an expedition into the
innards of the computer.

On October 17 the Latvian premiere of American
experimental cinematography master - director

Baldwin's treasure trove of early television

Hollywood movies, advertisements and cartoons,
combining these with live-action footage,
no-budget special effects, and relentless
narration to generate a wholly original paranoid
science

Jarman and Joe Gerhardt, will give a
presentation, talking about the ideas and
motivations behind their work including their
recent projects with space scientists. The works

Matter in Motion, The Sound of Microclimates, All
the Time in the World, and 200_Nanowebers.

and Sound Performances at RIXC Media Space on
October 16, Australian artists Botborg will be
pushing the boundaries of both technology and
audience by using their 'instrument' -
Photosonicneurokineasthograph - which is a
complex feedback machine incorporating an
entangled mix of new and old technologies. And
Edwin van der Heide (NL) will create an auditory
ambient 3D environment using two color lasers. On
October 18 the closing event of the festival will
feature a 'spectral' performance 10 000 Peacock
Feathers in Foaming Acid' by Netherlands-based
Russian-Byelorussian artists Evelin Domnitch and

* The international conference, organised in
collaboration with Art Research Lab (MPLab) of
Liepaja University, aims to facilitate
theoretical background for the SPECTROPIA

fundamental research in the field of
'electromagnetic art' in the future.

* In relation to the conference and festival,
Acoustic Space journal Issue no7 comes out with
the title 'Spectropia - Illuminating
Investigations in Electromagnetic Spectrum',
