The last exhibition from this year's cycle dedicated to the heritage of
the 20th century avant-garde art presents authors whose work refers to
the actual political reality.
Giuseppe Di Bella, an Italian artist located in London, turns to the war
in Iraq and by using images from the infamous prison Abu Ghraib in an
unusual way, he unambiguously places contemporary wars in the Middle
East into a long tradition of colonial conquests.
On the other hand, David Smithson's video installation, inspired by the
imaginarium of refugees and nomads, tries to draw attention to poverty,
which is increasingly and more selectively hitting the until recently
protected population of the Western world.
The work by Les Liens Invisibles, the group known for their
controversial work in which they invited users of Facebook to commit
virtual suicide, will show how this phenomenon is connected with the
mediation of reality via the Internet.
Two works will try to present the global principles of social and
political violence in the local context, both of which are inspired by
the Srebrenica massacre. Dutch artists Vincent W. J. van Gerven Oei and
Jonas Stall tackled the conservative role of the Dutch battalion in the
Srebrenica massacre, while Tea Tupajić's sound installation, more
poetically than analytically, faced the Srebrenica tragedy as one of the
more significant tragedies in modern Europe.
