dear Spectres,

in our little Amsterdamned experiment, the last PiXXXeL workshop was
about Bitcoin and it has seen the interested and informed
participation of new people in the audience. hopefully we are
succeeding in shaping it as a "transversal" event, gathering the
attention of people from different fields of practice and research:
art, science, economy, philosophy, media and.. beyond!

maybe funny story to mention, right after the last workshop we
followed the vector and made it a powerful gig out of our fishbowl at
EPCA: here an account of this stunt, complete with video and twits by
amused forex agents facing the disruptive technology they'll cry about
for the coming years

http://www.dyndy.net/2011/04/bitcoin-presented-to-the-old-world

and if that is not enough you'll read more about Bitcoin on the next
printed edition of Forbes, out on 6th may.

jeez that was quite a buzz.

Now our format is settling around 1h presentation, 2h workshop and,
starting from the next appointment, 2h networking event with drinks
and some performances. we are running quite regularly now, with a
pillow budget of 600EUR in donations, hospitality (space and tech
setup offered by NIMk, also part-time sponsoring my own R&D), good
networking and a somehow decent production: professional, yet refusing
the corporate communication style as you can read ;)

So here we go, you are all invited to the next PiXXXeL
   made in Am★dam (and beyond…)

… on 12 May 15:00 - 18:00 and 20:00 - 22:00 @ NIMk.nl hacking into

Milkymist – Open Hardware VJ Station

	  http://pixxxel.net/milkymist-open-hardware-vj-station

After years of passionate and engaging development, the first model
of a Milkymist VJ station is finally ready to be shown and tried by
   the public!

This time at PiXXXeL we’ll host a visit of LeKernel in person, the
infatiguable Milkymist developer best known for running day long
workshops of FPGA programming all over the World, mesmerizing
audiences of geeks with the psychedelic outputs of his small
   devices.

So the next PiXXXeL will be on 12 May @ NIMk: we will start at
15:00 as usual, when LeKernel will introduce us with a short
presentation of the latest version of Milkymist, then we’ll have a
worksop on how to operate and customize the device, to produce some
funky setups that we will use later on during the evening in a
small Milkymist party, starting at 20:00 and running until 22:00,
   to which everyone is invited.

It will be quite an intense day, bring your own cameras and video
   sources to feed into Milkymist!

From a technical point of view Milkymist has a lot of potential for
customization into your own video manipulation projects, being an 100%
open source system-on-chip (SoC) whose design was written in Verilog
HDL, so one can extend it with his/her own logic blocks. Under the hood
of this open-hardware device there is a pulsating LatticeMico32
processor core, which is capable of executing complex, fully-fledged
software (including nommu Linux) and comes with an extensive set of
   custom-built peripherals and graphics accelerators.
