TETSUYA UMEDA

Tetsuya Umeda is an artist currently working in Osaka, Japan. He has done 
several sound installation projects and performance that generates site-
specific soundscape using minimal function of electric circuit/system and 
simple physical phenomena. He has collaborated, among others, with Otomo 
Yoshihide and Kanta Horio, as well as performed with Kasumi Trio, together 
with Takashi Ueno, Shinsuke Michishita (LSD March) and Ikuro Takahashi 
(Fushitsusha, Nagisa Ni Te).

“Altering fans, televisions, and other everyday appliances, converting their 
functions into something utterly different, Umeda creates objects freed from 
their original meanings. His works, created to suit the spaces in which they 
will be installed, use utterly familiar, commonplace phenomena, channeled 
through his clever handiness and unique spatial sensibility, to create 
mysterious, seemingly impossible sensations. They thereby free one from rigid 
perceptions constrained by preconceived ideas.”

MICHAEL VORFELD

Light Bulb Music, by Berlin-based artist and percussionist Michael Vorfeld, is 
an audiovisual performance, the music for which is created by the use of 
various lamps and electrical control elements. The implementation of switches, 
dimmers, relays, flasher relays etc. produces multi-faceted variations in 
lighting and electrical current. This is then made audible with the aid of 
microphones and pick-ups. Subtle mechanical sounds produced within the control 
elements emerge and are acoustically amplified and integrated into the music. 
Changes in light intensity, the glimmer of filaments and the rhythmical variety 
of flickering and pulsating lights are translated into a microcosmic and rich 
electroacoustic soundscape. An altogether analogue and complex light and sound 
performance arises out of a spatial installation.
