KONTRASTE 2012 - ELECTRIC SHADOWS
Kontraste 2012 – Electric Shadows presents cutting-edge live performances, installations, films, lectures and sound walks in Krems/Austria from Oct 12 - 14. The festival is conceived as a ‘leap into the void’, a voyage through the electromagnetic spectrum, with audiovisual experiments that manipulate analogue and digital signals to amplify our senses, investigate the dark, and explore cosmological unknowns.

BENDING LIGHT
Cinema: A light beam emits from a projector and reflects on a screen. But in its trajectory from projector to screen the light beam is bent, dispersed, refracted. A magical play of light, colours and shadows is presented to the audience. Bending Light showcases handmade enchantments and hypnotic audiovisual sorcery.

SPECTRAL DISCHARGE
Laser beams shoot through transparent objects, creating speckle patterns. A double projection of digital images manipulates perception and emphasises retinal afterimages, and an arc of LED screens illuminates the space and serves as a stage for stunning vocal and electronic explorations. Spectral Discharge, ‘ghostly emissions’.

Justin Bennett’s (UK/NL) Spectral Analysis is a sound walk through Krems that unveils the shadow history of electromagnetic invention. there was always our voice is a playful new sound walk by Circumstance (UK) using location-aware mobile speakers. And Raviv Ganchrow’s (US/NL) site-specific sound intervention Fray reworks the immediate, everyday acoustic environment.
