Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Media Design, School of Design

Founded in 2000 the VUW School of Design has gone through a rapid development to become a leader in the field of design education in New Zealand. The School also has a strong commitment to digital technologies which reflects and supports the growth of a vibrant and internationally recognised digital creative sector in Wellington. 

Media Design is an integral part of the School of Design. The emphasis throughout is on the application of 3D and 4D digital visualisation and experience design in design studios dealing with both theoretical and practical issues. The Media Lab is comprised of a state of the art Macintosh classroom with over 45 new Macintosh stations, and an electronics workshop. These facilities also feature a variety of industry standard software applications. Additionally, the Media Lab is situated in the School of Design, which also includes photography studios, workshops with rapid prototyping and CNC machining capabilities, as well as digital laser cutting and Eden Objet 3D printing. 

The role focuses on delivering high quality teaching and research, thereby ensuring academic and professional quality in the Media Design Programme. Applicants should be both experienced and knowledgeable with cutting edge design research and practice. 

Deep experience is expected in either of these fields: 
•Interaction design: online media development 
•Motion design: time-based digital media 
Further experience in the following fields is beneficial: creative coding, online and mobile media, ubiquitous computing, video production and post-production, game design and professional presentation. 

Candidates with recognised high quality professional expertise in one of the fields noted above and who hold a Masters or PhD degree in one of those fields and/or who have recognised research achievements, will be given preference for the position.
