Dimanche Rouge presents an evening of performance art featuring
Dominican-based American artist Jessica Hirst and British artists Weeks &
Whitford at Plateforme Gallery on Thursday August 29th, 2013 at 8pm.
In her interactive performance Creative Economy, Jessica Hirst will explore
and challenge concepts of the value of money and art as physical objects.
Creative Economy intervenes international currency, the bills themselves,
transforming them into independently functional objects, such as a sewn
cloth, or as art, when they are painted.
Weeks & Whitford will present Concomitant - 12 x 15 = 180 Series. In this
work, the artists will explore the concurrence of life and death, loss,
hope and faith within recurring cycles and the lovers body as the locus for
a lifetime.
About Jessica Hirst
Jessica Hirst is an artist who works with performance, video, photography,
writing, collage, installations, and assemblage. Hirst lives and work
among Puerto Plata, Republica Dominicana, San Diego, California and
Washington, DC. She presented work worldwide including Barcelona, London,
Belgrade, Lisbon, Berlin, Managua, Tijuana, New York City, Miami, Bogota,
Buenos Aires, and Valdivia. Hirst studied contemporary art practice at
Metafora in Barcelona and earned a Bachelor of Science in Earth Systems
with distinction from Stanford University. She is interested in the porous
borders between ‘health’ and ‘illness’, in mechanisms of control in
personal and geopolitical relations, and in how the body expresses the
mind. Hirst believes it important to have a sense of humor, especially in
performance.

About Weeks & Whitford
Weeks & Whitford began working together in 2010 in order to directly
address the boundaries between life, experience and art and to confront
their own social and emotional limits and the limits of others. They allow
themselves to be vulnerable, to fail, to not offer answers, to not
entertain, and to achieve a disintegration within performance in order for
meaning to come through from beyond rationality, from where words expire.
Influenced by literature, visual art, philosophy, performance, horror, porn
and punk they blur the boundaries of performance art and common culture,
theatre, academia, the private and the personal, art and life.
