17 - 28 | 7 | 2013
opening: Wednesday 17th July, 21 - 23 h
Central subject of both presented works is the spinning of artists' body.
'New Skin Old Ceremony' is 8-channel video installation by Nina Kurtela shoot in different locations in Croatia, Germany, Israel, Kosovo, Norway and Poland. Artist body is an instrument / transmitter of the idea. She spins until she falls. While examining identity and intimacy she question how can different actions of the body in particular social, cultural and urbanistic sphere determinate the human behavior, influence experience and affect us.
Video work ‘Shedervish [Framed]’ by Valentina Lacmanovic is made in collaboration with cameraman Chris Fawcett. Valentina has been working on the Shedervish concept since 2004, where the idea of interpretation of the ancient techniques of dances of trance in contemporary ways, gave birth to various experiments. In 2007 the dance/ theatre/video art piece Shedervish premiered in collaboration with film director Amir Grabus, and is still touring. The Video art piece Shedervish [framed] is an attempt to combine dance and filming in one single shot. That Valentina seems to be still while the background turns at great speed, leads to a shift in perspective between viewer and dancer.
