In the context of the Fieldwork A-I-R programme, Paris based artist Shu
Lea Cheang comes to Linz, Austria, and invites for a Seeds Underground
Party. The monopolising tendencies of large seed producers in the USA
and the latest attempts of the EU to draft a new seeds directive,
motivate this invitation to exchange seeds in joyful people-to-people
gatherings. Bring self-harvested seeds and sprouted plants to exchange,
to adopt and germinate, to broadcast and track their distribution. "We
share good foods and tales while waiting for the sprouts to rise up in
early daybreak."
Just subscribe at Seeds Underground (URL: http://seedsunderground.net/)
and join the event.
Fieldwork, Armin Medosch curates new Artist-in-Residency Programme of STWST
The residency of Shu Lea Cheang in Linz is part of a new
Artist-in-Residency program curated by Armin Medosch on measurement ship
Eleonore - a floating think-tank for transdisciplinary art by
Stadtwerkstatt (STWST), Linz. A core interest are socially engaged
artistic practices, whose model character makes them capable of
producing alternative outlooks on how economics, ecology, technology and
politics articulate their relationships. The Eleonore, its equipment and
social environment, make it ideally suited to become a greenhouse of
experimentation and participation from where interventions in
techno-social patterns emerge.
The works developed during the Fieldwork residencies will be shown in
the Fields exhibition, Riga May 15th to Aug 4 2014, at Arsenals
exhibition hall, which is part of the Riga Culture Capital programme.
The residency programme is part of an expanding interest of STWST in the
relation of art with nature and to stimulate discussions and support
networks of practitioners, through its A-I-R programme. The first three
artists will be: Shu Lea Cheang (USA/FR), 1.- 15. June, Neal White (UK),
19.-30. June, and Hayley Newman (UK), 19. August - 01. September.
