Strategic Hire in Interaction Design, Theory and Practice

Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, invites applications for a
tenure-track strategic hire position in the area of Interaction Design,
Theory and Practice. Depending on the selected candidate’s profile, the
appointment will be made either in the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty 
of Arts and Sciences or in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer 
Science. The goal of the strategic hire program is to augment existing 
research capacity at Concordia through the development of high profile 
interdisciplinary research clusters. The successful candidate will 
receive an attractive research support and teaching package.

Working with the internationally-known Hexagram Centre for
Research-Creation in Media Art and Technology
<http://hexagram.concordia.ca> at Concordia as well as the larger
Hexagram network (http://hexagram.ca), the strategic hire in Interaction 
Design, Theory and Practice will build on Concordia’s leadership in the 
growing field of digital media art and design to enhance our 
understanding of the cultural and technological potential of interaction 
within digital culture, develop new research partnerships and 
applications, and innovate programs and curriculum. Hexagram, which is 
the largest and most productive new media network in Canada, is an 
interdisciplinary, cross-faculty and cross- university research network 
dedicated to advanced research-creation and graduate training in new 
media art, design, technology and digital culture.

Applicants for this position should have a PhD, MDes, MFA or appropriate 
terminal degree in Interaction Design, Media Art, STS with a focus on 
Design, Computer Science and HCI, or related fields,
as well as a superior record of research and/or research-creation.

We are seeking a candidate who conducts research and/or does creative
work and has teaching and/or industry experience in at least one of the
following areas of arts/entertainment HCI: interaction design,
experience design, cognitive/social science methods or digital arts and
design.

*We are also particularly interested in applicants whose profile is:*

   * multidisciplinary,
   * crosses art, design, computer science and Science and Technology
     Studies,
   * employs experimental, ethnographic, and/or critical methods, and
   * focuses on innovative design approaches within the context of
     ecological-economic sustainability and socio-cultural responsibility.

The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated abilities to
work in collaborative interdisciplinary settings, attract and mentor
excellent graduate students and secure external funding. The candidate
will also be expected to take a leading role within Hexagram at both the 
local Concordia antenna as well as within the larger Hexagram network.

The successful candidate for the position in Interaction Design, Theory
and Practice will be appointed at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor in one of several departments at Concordia including Design
and Computation Arts, Computer Science and Software Engineering or
Sociology and Anthropology.

Subject to budgetary approval, we anticipate filling this position,
normally at the rank of Assistant Professor, for August 1, 2015.
