be a Dutch Electronic Art Festival in this year!

We are happy to announce that DEAF 2014 will take place in Rotterdam
from 21 – 25 May, with an exhibition that will run from 21 May till 9
June 2014. The theme of DEAF 2014 is The Progress Trap. DEAF wants to
look beyond the 'innovation horizon' of tomorrow and explore the
future through unusual and extreme scenarios of innovation and
technological progress. Stay tuned for more.

Outer Space as Extreme Scenario is the seventh in the series of Blowup
Readers released by V2_. The collection contains a range of
specially-commissioned and previously published pieces which
investigate how the exploration of outer space has inspired and
challenged artists, designers, thinkers, and the general public. It
forms part of the ongoing research into Innovation in Extreme
Scenarios carried out by V2_Lab. It’s a free download, so come and

Want to know what you should not miss in Rotterdam next month? The
cultural talk show The Third Tuesday – in Dutch De Derde Dinsdag –
provides a high speed update with short interviews, performances, film
previews, theater and live music. The January edition is hosted by
V2_, and the special guest is Guus Beumer, the director of the New
Institute.

On Monday 27 January Kees Tazelaar presents his book On the Threshold
of Beauty at Club Transmediale in Berlin. His lecture will be on
Electronic Music Pioneers in the Netherlands, and there will be sound
diffusions of works by Jan Boerman, Gottfried Michael Koenig, Dick

As part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Sonic Acts
presents Vertical Cinema at Arminius on 24 January. Ten commissioned
large-scale works by internationally renowned experimental filmmakers
and audiovisual artists will be screened on a 8,5-metre vertical
screen. The screening will take place only once at IFFR. One day
earlier, on 23 January at Lantaren Venster, media-archeologist Erkki
Huhtamo elaborates on verticality as a cultural phenomenon in his
lecture ‘Up and Down the Shaft of Time: An Archeology of Verticality’.
A special Vertical Cinema workshop organised by Sonic Acts in
cooperation with Piet Zwart Institute and Filmwerkplaats Rotterdam
