Lüneburg, Institute of Culture and Aesthetics of Digital Media, Bachelor
Major Digital Media, is offering a full-time position as
Teaching Associate (computing and coding cultures)
Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in, salary group E 13 TV-L, full time
starting at the earliest on 01.04.2015, for a duration of up to 30.09.2017.
The digital media degree program combines a theoretical engagement in
media studies and history with an introduction to the foundations of
programming and hands-on exercises in programming and creative
applications of digital media. This new and exciting program is in
search of somebody with knowledge of computer science in order to teach
digital media from a technical perspective, providing students with the
technical foundations of the Internet, digital information processing,
and the World Wide Web.
Your tasks
- Planning and teaching courses in English. Primary teaching will be
mainly in the modules "Technical Basis I / II" and "Practical
Experiences I-III” (10 credit hours)
- Assisting in the development of the Bachelor Major Digital Media,
including planning and coordination of the curriculum, development of
teaching, soring out technical issues and teaching projects, and
conceptualizing the intersections of the technical and creative courses
with courses in media history as well as theoretical and empirical
approaches.
Your profile
- A university degree, preferably in the field of computer science,
media and cultural studies, or a related area;
- Practical experience and competence in teaching in the field of
programming, e.g. PHP, Java or Python, as well as in the field of web
development, i.e. HTML and app development, e.g. for Android;
- Ability to teach the theoretical foundations of programming, database
systems and network analysis, as well as the technical principles of the
World Wide Web and social media. Relevant teaching experience in these
areas would be an advantage;
- Desired are proofs of engagement with questions, as posed in the
cultural sciences.
- Ability to convey technically complex conecpts to beginners as well as
advanced students, for example, through lectures, tutorials, workshops,
project work and laboratory.
- Ability and willingness to teach in English
- Ideally, some experience with the implementation of projects in the
field of net culture activism and/or industry, including a rich network
of contacts.
- Teamwork skills and experience in caring for students assistants and
project collaborators.
